The Falcons recorded four sacks and three takeaways in the 15-9 win over the Raiders in Week 15.
Analysis: The Falcons took advantage of a prime matchup versus QB Desmond Ridder and the Raiders. This defense has serious flaws in the secondary, but those issues likely won't surface in the Week 16 matchup versus the Giants. It's unclear who will start under center, as QBs Drew Lock (heel) and Tommy DeVito (concussion), meaning QB Tim Boyle has a chance to start. Lock presents some threat, but DeVito and Boyle can't push the ball downfield with any certainty. The Giants rank last in the league with…read more

The Falcons recorded four sacks and no takeaways in the 42-21 loss to the Vikings in Week 14.
Analysis: The Falcons still rank last in the league with 19 sacks and 23rd with 11 takeaways, and their pass defense ranks 25th in the league with 229.1 passing yards allowed per game. Still, they have an excellent opportunity in the Week 15 matchup versus the Raiders, who haven't scored more than 19 points in a game since Week 9. Furthermore, they have coughed up a league-high 25 turnovers. QB Desmond Ridder will likely start this week in his first start of the season, but Falcons D/ST should still have…read more

The Falcons recorded five sacks and a fumble recovery in the 17-13 loss to the Chargers in Week 13.
Analysis: The Falcons put substantial pressure on QB Justin Herbert, but they still rank last in the league with 15 sacks through 12 games. The lack of pass rush has led to issues throughout the defense, as it ranks 22nd in passing defense, 22nd in scoring defense and 22nd in takeaways. That provides significant risk against the Vikings, who have scored 24.8 points per game (ninth), although Falcons D/ST should have some DFS intrigue because of the Vikings' 29 turnovers this year -- sixth-most in the…read more

The Falcons recorded a sack and no takeaways in the 38-6 loss to the Broncos in Week 12.
Analysis: The Falcons have given up at least 20 points in 10 straight games, leading to 24.9 points allowed per game -- seventh-most in the league. Meanwhile, this defense has shown limited upside with just 10 turnovers (24th) and 10 sacks (32nd). That's too much risk when going up against the Chargers, who have scored at least 23 points in six of the last seven games.

The Falcons didn't record a sack or an interception in the 20-17 loss to the Saints in Week 10.
Analysis: The Falcons have given up at least 20 points in nine straight games, struggling particularly as a pass defense. Meanwhile, their Week 11 opponent the Broncos have totaled just 24 total points over the last two weeks. However, rookie QB Bo Nix has shown some promise as a passer and runner while turning the ball over just once over the last two weeks. The Broncos still rank 22nd with 19.7 points per game, meaning Falcons D/ST should have a solid floor even if it's missing the typical ceiling.

The Falcons recorded three sacks in the 27-21 win over the Cowboys in Week 9.
Analysis: The Falcons rank last in the league with nine sacks, which is a huge problem for any meaningful fantasy floor. After all, they've allowed 22.9 points per game (20th) while forcing just 10 turnovers (15th) through nine games. Their matchup in Week 10 looks easier if Chris Olave (concussion) sits out, as he accounts for 29 percent of the team's receiving yards. Thus, the Falcons D/ST should have a solid floor even if it has an unappealing ceiling this week.

The Falcons recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the 31-26 win over the Buccaneers in Week 8.
Analysis: The Falcons held QB Baker Mayfield to just 6.6 YPA across a whopping 50 pass attempts. Through seven games, the Falcons have recorded 10 takeaways (13th) but a league-low six sacks. The lack of a consistent pass rush is a major red flag for fantasy purposes, especially when facing QB Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Week 9. The Cowboys have averaged 256.0 passing yards per game (third), and if the Falcons can't get consistent pressure, they'll be a high-risk fantasy option.

The Falcons recorded a sack and no takeaways in the 34-14 loss to the Seahawks in Week 7.
Analysis: The Falcons have recorded a league-low six sacks while allowing 24.1 points per game (22nd). They will now face the Buccaneers for the second time in four weeks, as they gave up 30 points to them back in Week 5. However, the Buccaneers will be without both WRs Chris Godwin (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring), who combined for 49 percent of the team's receiving yards. Without that duo, the Falcons D/ST should have a decent floor even if the fantasy ceiling isn't desirable.

The Falcons recorded two interceptions in the 38-20 win over the Panthers in Week 6.
Analysis: The Falcons have given up at least 20 points in five straight games. With such a low floor, the Falcons have also posted 10 sacks (27th) and seven takeaways (14th), and now they could be without S Justin Simmons (hamstring). Missing Simmons could spell trouble against Seahawks Geno Smith, who leads the league in passing yards, leading the Seahawks to 23.4 points per game (13th). The Falcons recorded a sack and a fumble recovery in the 36-30 overtime win over the Buccaneers in Week 5.
Analysis: The Falcons provide limited weekly upside with a league-worst five sacks through five games while allowing 23 points per game (20th). The Week 6 matchup versus the Panthers is enticing, but there's more risk now that QB Bryce Young has been benched. The Panthers have scored 23.3 points per game with QB Andy Dalton under center, but they coughed up four turnovers across three games in that span. Still, the Panthers scored just 10 points while throwing for just 136 yards in Week 5, meaning Dalton…read more

The Falcons recorded a sack and two takeaways in the 26-24 win over the Saints in Week 4.
Analysis: The Falcons have recorded a league-low four sacks this season, highlighting how their limited pass rush caps the ceiling of this fantasy defense. Nevertheless, the Falcons have held their own in the passing game, allowing just 191 passing yards per game (13th). Nevertheless, this is a high-risk matchup versus the Buccaneers, who have scored 33-plus points in two of four games this season while giving up just three total turnovers, the third-fewest in the league.

The Falcons recorded an interception and no sacks in the 22-17 loss to the Chiefs in Week 3.
Analysis: The Falcons have been quite sturdy, allowing just 20.3 points per game (13th), but they haven't produced for fantasy purposes with just three sacks and two takeaways thus far. Their upcoming matchup versus the Saints is tough to get a grasp on, as they rank second in the league with 34.3 points per game despite putting up just 12 points on the Eagles last week. This matchup is probably fine for fantasy purposes, but the upside appears limited and there's substantial risk.

The Falcons recorded a sack and an interception in the 22-21 win over the Eagles in Week 2.
Analysis: The Falcons have impressed defensively through two weeks, allowing the 10th-fewest points in the last two weeks despite forcing just one turnover and recording three sacks. Things could break open against them in Week 3 versus the Chiefs, who have scored 26-plus points in back-to-back games. There's some upside with RB Isaiah Pacheco (leg) out and with the Chiefs turning the ball over four times thus far, but it's only worth the risk in DFS formats.

The Falcons recorded two sacks and no takeaways in the 18-10 loss to the Steelers in Week 1.
Analysis: The Falcons had massive upside against QB Justin Fields, who notoriously takes too many sacks, but they were unable to take advantage of the matchup. Their defense may still take the next step this season, but it's a high-risk bet in Week 2 against the Eagles. While the Eagles turned the ball over three times in Week 1, they showed a next level to their offense with RB Saquon Barkley at the helm, scoring 34 points against the Packers in the opener. The Falcons added S Jessie Bates and LB Matthew Judon this offseason, and they'll both be healthy Week 1 versus the Steelers.
Analysis: The Falcons finished 23rd last year with just 19 sacks, and the addition of Judon -- who has posted 32 sacks over the past 38 games -- should comfortably replace the impact of DE Calais Campbell. The secondary still has some questions, but this unit is set up well against a faltering Steelers offensive line and QB Russell Wilson, who has a history of taking too many sacks. Thus, Falcons D/ST should be considered an excellent fantasy option in Week 1.

The Falcons traded a third-round pick to the Patriots or LB Matthew Judon on Wednesday.
Analysis: Judon is 32 years old but hasn't shown signs of slowing down, producing 32 sacks over 38 games with the Patriots. He's a game-changing pass-rusher who could improve the Falcons' defense dramatically, considering it posted just 19 sacks (23rd) last year, although the loss of DE Calais Campbell (to Miami) hurts the bottom line. Overall, this unit has some fantasy utility and may be a popular streamer Week 1 versus the Steelers, but it likely won't be worth holding onto further into the season.

The Falcons recorded three sacks and no takeaways in the 37-17 loss to the Bears in Week 17.
Analysis: The Falcons struggled to slow the Bears down on the ground while also allowing WR D.J. Moore to accumulate 159 yards and a score through the air. It was a disaster, but it's worth noting they still rank ninth in the league with 19.4 points allowed per game. Still, their upside is limited with 16 turnovers (28th) and 19 sacks (23rd). Analysis: The Falcons have allowed 19.2 points per game (sixth) while giving up 15 or fewer points in four of the last five games. There's some serious risk in Week 17 against the Bears, however, as QB Justin Fields has looked good while posting at least 26 points in three of the last five games. The Falcons recorded a sack and no takeaways in the 29-25 loss to the Buccaneers in Week 14.
Analysis: The Falcons failed to force a turnover for the first time since Week 6, but they still rank 21st with just 15 takeaways. They draw an extremely favorable Week 15 matchup against rookie QB Bryce Young and the Panthers. This team has been putrid all season, and it hasn't scored more than 18 points in a game since Week 6. Thus, the floor is extremely high for Falcons D/ST this week even though the Panthers have given up a respectable 17 turnovers (14th).

Analysis: The Falcons capitalized on the favorable matchup and held their opponent to fewer than 10 points for the first time this season. They're now set up for a rematch against the Buccaneers, whom they beat 16-13 in Week 7 while forcing two turnovers and recording three sacks. Analysis: The Falcons have put together a mediocre performance this season, but they vaulted into fantasy relevance last week when S Jessie Bates returned an interception for a touchdown in the first half. They draw another favorable matchup in Week 13 against the Jets, who will go with QB Tim Boyle again. The Falcons recorded two sacks and an interception in the 25-23 loss to the Cardinals in Week 10.
Analysis: The Falcons are now coming off a bye week to face the Saints for the first time this season. It has been an uninspiring season for this defense, which has allowed 21.7 points per game (18th) while registering just 10 takeaways (27th) and 21 sacks (24th). The Falcons have a low floor on a weekly basis as a result, but perhaps there's some reason for optimism against the Saints offense that has recorded just 21.4 points per game (18th).

Analysis: The Falcons couldn't take advantage of the favorable matchup against Minnesota's second and third string quarterbacks. They're looking to bounce back against another rookie, as fifth-round QB Jaren Hall will make his first career start in Week 9 after QB Kirk Couisins (Achilles) was ruled out for the season. The Falcons posted three sacks and two takeaways in the 16-13 win over the Buccaneers in Week 7.
Analysis: The Falcons have forced a turnover in just three of seven games this season, but they've also given up just 19 points per game (ninth), providing an intriguing floor for fantasy purposes. Now, they draw an excellent matchup versus the Titans, who are expected to hand rookie QB Will Levis his first career start. The Titans offense is already sluggish with 17.3 points per game (25th), so perhaps Levis will turn things around, although that's unlikely. Confidently start Falcons D/ST this week.

The Falcons recorded five sacks and no takeaways in the 24-16 loss to the Commanders in Week 6.
Analysis: QB Sam Howell was sacked 5.8 times through the first five weeks, so this was a typical outing for a defense in that matchup. The Falcons will have a tougher time in Week 7 versus the Buccaneers, as QB Baker Mayfield has been sacked a league-low five times. There's still a decent floor because the Bucs have scored just 18 points per game (25th), but the ceiling is certainly limited because they've given up just four turnovers.

Analysis: The Falcons have yet to allow more than 24 points in a game this season, and they rank 10th with 19.2 points per game. They've provided minimal fantasy value this season, however, as they rank last in the league with just five sacks and 23rd with four takeaways. Analysis: The Falcons gave up at least 20 points for the third straight week. They posted just one turnover in that stretch. This defense hasn't shown much upside this season, as it has posted just five sacks, and now it will face a Houston offense that has been surprisingly good. Analysis: The Falcons held the Packers scoreless in the fourth quarter to achieve a 2-0 record to begin the season. CB Jeff Okudah (ankle) likely won't be ready for Week 1 versus the Panthers but should return soon thereafter.
Analysis: Injuries have been a consistent issue for Okudah, and his absence means Dee Alford and Tre Flowers will round out their nickel sets alongside A.J. Terrell. That's not an encouraging secondary, but they may have some slack against rookie QB Bryce Young, especially because the Falcons' pass rush can pick up some slack now that DE Calais Campbell (undisclosed) is healthy. DE Calais Campbell is dealing with an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: While head coach Arthur Smith called this a minor injury, he also said it would take at least 10 days before there was an update on Campbell's status. Campbell will turn 37 years old in September, so it's not surprising that the team will take caution. Analysis: Campbell will turn 37 years old in September while Okudah and Dupree both needed fresh starts. These aren't reinforcements that will transform a defense overnight. The Commanders have produced 21.4 points per game with Heinicke under center while giving up just five turnovers. That doesn't provide the Falcons with much upside, so this unit should only have appeal in deep leagues.

The Falcons recorded a sack and no takeaways in the 25-25 loss to the Panthers in Week 10.
Analysis: The Falcons have shown modest upside with 13 turnovers (16th), but their pass rush is dismal with just 13 sacks (31st). Nevertheless, there is significant upside this week, as QB Justin Fields has been sacked a league-high 36 times this season. It will be tough to count on the Falcons to get to Fields, and it's worth noting that they carry plenty of risk because they have given up 25 points per game this season -- the sixth-most in the league.

The Falcons recorded two takeaways in the 20-17 loss to the Chargers in Week 9.
Analysis: The Falcons now rank 10th in the league with 13 takeaways. Unfortunately, they carry plenty of risk on a weekly basis because they have recorded just 12 sacks (30th) while allowing 25 points per game (26th). They should be a high-end option in Week 10 against the Panthers, who have averaged 19.9 points per game (23rd) this season. QB P.J. Walker will start for the Panthers, and he has a 3:3 TD:INT ratio over three starts.

Analysis: The Falcons have given up 25.6 points per game (29th) this season, but they have supplemented their fantasy value with 11 takeaways (12th). They've shown some promise, but facing the Chargers in Week 9 is unappealing. After all, the Chargers rank 11th 23.4 points per game while giving up the seventh-fewest turnover (fifth) in the league.

The Falcons recorded three sacks and no takeaways in the 35-17 loss to the Bengals in Week 7.
Analysis: The Panthers will start QB P.J. Walker, who has recorded 6.8 YPA and a 2:0 TD:INT ratio through three games (two starts), in Week 8. Walker can't run up the score in a game, and he no longer has RB Christian McCaffrey at the helm. It may be wise to fade Falcons D/ST in large-slate DFS tournaments because the Falcons have struggled to get to the quarterback. However, this unit has a high floor and is a solid option in season-long leagues.

Analysis: The Falcons continue to perform well, as they rank fifth in the league with 10 takeaways through six games. However, their eight sacks rank 30th while their 22.7 points allowed per game sits at 19th. This unit has surprised at times this season, as it held the Buccaneers to just 21 points two weeks ago, too. However, it has a tall task in Week 7 against the Bengals, who appear fully healthy. Analysis: The Falcons have given up 24.4 points per game (20th) this season, and they've forced seven takeaways (13th). They're in a vulnerable spot against QB Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. The Week 4 matchup against the Browns could be difficult, as they rank sixth in the league with 28.3 points per game while giving up just one turnover all year. Analysis: The Falcons surprised in Week 2 as a fantasy viable unit, and they have an opportunity to put up another solid week against the Seahawks. Through two weeks, the Seahawks have posted a mere 24 points with four turnovers and four sacks to boot. The Falcons' defensive firepower is questionable still, but this unit is worth a chance in deeper formats.

Analysis: The Falcons allowed two passing touchdowns, and they gave up 151 yards on the ground as well. That was basically a ceiling performance for the Falcons, who are weak in the box and have an average secondary. They shouldn't be on fantasy radars in Week 2 against the Rams. Analysis: Jones will miss the first four games of the season as he rehabs his shoulder injury, and he could be a cut candidate upon return. The Falcons will start Rashaan Evans -- an experienced starter -- and Mykal Walker at inside linebacker for the time being. The Falcons' secondary may be better than last season with A.J. LB Deion Jones (shoulder) was activated from the PUP list and has been practicing with the team.
Analysis: Jones isn't a guarantee to make the 53-man roster, but he should rack up tackles if he's with the team Week 1. Regardless, Jones won't make or break this defense; it's already broken. They ranked 29th last season with 27 points allowed per game and last in the league with 18 sacks. The Falcons didn't make a concerted effort to address these weaknesses. Atlanta finished last season 20th in total defense (355.8 YPG) and 23rd in scoring (24.9 PPG), and a similar finish in 2020 wouldn't be surprising.

The Falcons allowed 288 yards and 12 points to the Jaguars in Week 16 and play the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Analysis: Atlanta had three sacks and one takeaway while not allowing Jacksonville into the end zone until the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is coming off a five-giveaway performance, putting them at 38 giveaways (six more than the next worst team). The Atlanta D/ST has been much improved in the second half of the season and is a solid option for the finale given QB Jameis Winston's turnover issues.

The Falcons gave up 313 yards and 22 points during Sunday's win over the 49ers and play the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: Atlanta had one sack and two takeaways, including a fumble return for a touchdown on the last play of the game as San Fran attempted desperation laterals. The Falcons have been revitalized since their Week 9 bye, and the matchup with the Jaguars provides a solid opportunity to finish the season-long fantasy campaign on a strong note. Jacksonville hasn't exceeded 20 points in its last six games, making the Atlanta D/ST a mid-tier option with a decent floor.

CB Marcus Trufant (forearm) was placed on injured reserve this week as the Falcons play the 49ers on Sunday.
Analysis: Atlanta is coming off an impressive five-sack, four-takeaway performance against Carolina, but a matchup with San Fran in Week 15 presents a more problematic matchup. The 49ers just put up 48 points on the Saints -- which feature a much better defense than the Falcons -- and are fourth in the league in total offense (388.6 YPG) and second in scoring (30.5 PPG). The Atlanta D/ST has provided some value of late, but nowhere near enough to be utilized versus San Fran in the fantasy playoffs.

Atlanta allowed 279 yards in the 26-18, Week 13 loss to New Orleans and will play the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Despite the low yardage total, the Falcons provided nothing of note in this contest, with zero takeaways and zero sacks. Their own offensive issues (nine sacks and three giveaways) led to the Saints running only 49 plays, which may have been a blessing in disguise. The Panthers are coming off a loss to the Redskins in which they had two giveaways and seven sacks allowed, keeping them near the bottom of the league in both categories. There's plenty of fantasy potential in this matchup, but it's…read more

Atlanta surrendered 446 yards and 28 offensive points during Sunday's 35-22 loss to Tampa Bay and will play the Saints on Thursday.
Analysis: The Falcons picked off QB Jameis Winston twice but were otherwise unable to slow down the Buccaneers through the air, as they allowed 11.2 yards per pass and didn't record a sack. Atlanta has looked better defensively since the Week 9 bye and shut down New Orleans only a couple weeks ago, but it seems ill-advised to expect a repeat performance after Sunday's game. The Saints have scored 34 points in back-to-back contests and make the Falcons D/ST a risky play in Week 13.

The Falcons allowed 347 yards and three points Week 11 against the Panthers and will play the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Analysis: Atlanta entered their Week 9 bye with only four takeaways and seven sacks for the season, but over the last two games they have turned things around with four takeaways and 11 sacks. Kenjon Barner also added a punt return for a touchdown versus Carolina. The Falcons appeared to be an unstartable defensive unit only a few weeks ago, but their recent performance and the Week 12 matchup with the turnover-happy Buccaneers (25 giveaways) brings them back on the fantasy radar. The horrible first…read more

The Falcons had six sacks and gave up only nine points to the Saints in Week 11 and will play the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Atlanta entered the game with only seven sacks all season, but it came out of the bye week swinging and limited New Orleans to only 310 yards. Unfortunately for the Falcons, one outstanding performance doesn't erase eight games of poor play, as they still rank dead last with only four takeaways -- the next closest team has seven -- and tied-28th in scoring defense (28.8). Until it shows any sort of consistency the Atlanta D/ST needs a great matchup to be worthy of fantasy consideration, and…read more

The Falcons come out of their bye week giving up 31.2 PPG and 379.5 YPG and will play the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: The Seahawks had 27 points and 322 yards in the Week 8 win over the Falcons, but the result should have been significantly worse as Seattle went conservative on offense after taking a 24-0 lead into halftime. Atlanta has only four takeaways this season and isn't worth fantasy consideration going up against red-hot New Orleans.

The Chargers held the Packers to 11 points and 184 total yards in Week 9's win.
Analysis: The Chargers' offense dominated as well, but their defensive effort is what won them the game. The Packers were rolling with at least 27 points in five of six games leading up to this contest, and the Chargers absolutely shut them down. Now, they'll face off against the Raiders on short rest. The Raiders have picked up steam lately as well, as RB Josh Jacobs posted 120 rushing yards for his third time in four games while QB Derek Carr tossed two scores for the third time in as many weeks.
