Discouraging injury update
Irvin (knee) is behind in his recovery according to Pete Carroll, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Irvin underwent an additional surgery a few weeks ago for his torn ACL, and it appears he is behind in his recovery process as a result. The linebacker got to play in just two games before his injury, where he recorded five tackles (four solo).

Officially placed on IR
The Seahawks placed Irvin (torn ACL) on injured reserve Wednesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Irvin was quite effective as a pass rusher through the first two games, recording four QB pressures and three QB knockdowns. It's an unfortunate injury for the 32-year-old, and he'll look to rehab and potentially return for the 2021 season, although his contract with the Seahawks expires in March. Moving forward, rookie first-rounder Jordyn Brooks is expected to start at strong-side linebacker.

Torn ACL confirmed
An MRI confirmed that Irvin suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's win over the Patriots, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The 32-year-old will miss the rest of the season and figures to undergo surgery in the near future. Irvin had five total tackles this season before suffering the injury during the latter stages of Sunday's contest. Rookie first-rounder Jordyn Brooks is likely to step into the starting role in his absence.

Torn ACL feared
The Seahawks fear Irvin tore his ACL in Sunday's win over the Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Irvin spent the rest of the game on the bench following the injury, and the team is expected to run further tests Monday to confirm the ACL tear. The veteran started the first two games of the season at strong-side linebacker, and he contributed as an edge rusher on passing downs. If Irvin in fact did tear his ACL, rookie first-round pick is expected to bump into a starting role moving forward.

Dealing with knee sprain
Irvin sprained his knee in Sunday's 35-30 win over the Patriots but was walking around the locker room after the game, per coach Pete Carroll, Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Irvin's ability to walk around under his own power after the game was encouraging, but he will likely appear on Seattle's injury report as the Seahawks get set to face Dallas in Week 3.

Hurts knee late in Week 2
Irvin suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against New England and is doubtful to return, Brady Henderson of ESPN's NFL Nation reports.
Analysis: Seattle should have an update on Irvin's injury as the team begins its preparation for a Week 3 matchup against Dallas. He's unlikely to return for the final minutes of the game against the Patriots.

Good to go against Atlanta
Irvin (hip) is expected to start at strong-side linebacker against the Falcons after not being listed on Wednesday's injury report, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Irvin's hip injury was relatively minor, but the 32-year-old was held out of practice as a precaution. Head coach Pete Carroll plans to use Irvin at strong-side linebacker in base defense while shifting to defensive end on passing downs. The veteran has proved he's still capable of fulfilling both roles after posting 36 tackles, 8.5 sacks and a pass breakup over 13 games with the Panthers last season.

Minor hip injury
Head coach Pete Carroll said Irvin has missed a few days of practice due to a "real slight hip-flexor" issue, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Carroll reiterated Irvin isn't dealing with a serious injury and is sitting out mainly as a precaution. Still, the situation is worth keeping an eye on since Irvin is poised to start at strong-side linebacker in 2020 while also contributing as an edge rusher. Jordyn Brooks likely will take reps at strong-side linebacker until Irvin is ready to return.

Poised for consistent role
Irvin is expected to play strong-side linebacker on early downs and defensive end in nickel packages in 2020, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Irvin returned to Seattle in March after spending the last four years in Oakland, Atlanta and Carolina. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll intends to offer the 32-year-old a considerable workload, with Irvin likely to make his biggest statistical impact as an edge rusher on passing downs. Irvin has plenty of experience playing both linebacker and down lineman, and he's coming off a strong 2019 campaign during which he accrued 36 tackles and a career-high 8.5 sacks.

Heads back to Seattle
Irvin agreed to a contract with the Seahawks on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Irvin is coming off an impressive rebound season in Carolina, during which he notched a career-high 8.5 sacks across 13 regular-season games. He'll now return to the Seahawks, who selected him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Expect him to contribute as a rotational pass rusher during the 2020 campaign.

Career high in sacks
Irvin finished the 2019 season with 36 tackles (22 solo), 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 13 games played.
Analysis: Irvin inked a one-year deal with Carolina last offseason after splitting the 2018 campaign between two teams. With just one season of fewer than 5.5 sacks in his seven prior to joining the Panthers, Irvin was added to help get after the quarterback, and he ultimately finished with a career high in the category. The veteran's tally included five sacks over his last six outings, setting him up nicely as he re-enters free agency this offseason.
