Struggles on ground persist
Freeman ran for 51 yards on 17 carries and caught four of five targets for 13 receiving yards during Thursday's 26-18 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: The two-time Pro Bowl back has been subpar as a rusher thus far in 2019, now standing at 3.4 yards per carry on the season after his effort Thanksgiving night against New Orleans' top-five rush defense. Receiving production has salvaged fantasy utility for Freeman to some extent, but he's only eclipsed 40 rushing yards twice all year running behind a banged-up Falcons offensive line. Freeman is now afforded nine days to continue to bounce back from a sprained foot that previously sidelined him,…read more

Ready to face Saints
Coach Dan Quinn said Freeman (foot) looks great and will be ready for Thursday's game against the Saints, William McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Listed as a limited practice participant Monday and a full participant Tuesday, the 27-year-old running back is set to reclaim his lead role. Freeman suffered the foot injury during a Nov. 10 matchup with the same Saints team he'll face Thursday, finishing with 10 carries for 38 yards and three catches for an additional 10 yards in that contest. The Saints have done a number on opposing backs all season, allowing a league-low 680 rushing yards and the fourth-fewest fantasy points (13.5 per…read more

Practices without limitations
Freeman (foot) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: This is Freeman's first full-speed practice since suffering a foot sprain Nov. 10, and he's on track to suit up Thursday against the Saints. Brian Hill was unproductive in Freeman's stead with 1.8 yards per carry, while rookie Qadree Ollison wasn't much better with a 2.6 mark. Thus, barring a "pitch count" for Freeman, he should lead Atlanta's backfield against a strong Saints run defense.

On practice field Tuesday
Freeman (foot) participated in the part of Tuesday's practice open to the media, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman was listed as limited on the Falcons' estimated injury report Monday, so it'll be interesting to see if he maintains that activity level or elevates to full participant. In any case, he's putting himself in position to return from a two-game absence.

Expected to go through walk-through
Freeman (foot) is expected to take part in Monday's walk-through practice, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: After Sunday's 35-22 loss to the Buccaneers, the Falcons will face a quick turnaround for Week 13, taking on the Saints in a Thanksgiving Day game. For that reason, Atlanta isn't likely to hold any rigorous practice sessions, which will make it difficult to gauge Freeman's health ahead of Thursday's game even if he ends up being listed as a limited participant on what will likely be three estimated reports this week. Out at least one more week
Freeman (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Still unable to practice, Freeman will miss a second straight game and won't necessarily be back for Week 13. Brian Hill led the Atlanta backfield with 15 carries and 60 percent of the offensive snaps in last week's win over Carolina, but Qadree Ollison and Kenjon Barner also got some playing time.

Not spotted Friday
Freeman (foot) was not spotted at Friday's practice, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman has not practiced all week, which does not bode well for his chances of playing in Week 12. The Falcons will reveal whether or not Freeman has any chance to take the field when they release their final injury report of the week.

No practice Thursday
Freeman (foot) didn't practice Thursday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Freeman has made negligible progress through a sprained foot, putting him in danger of missing a second game in a row. Friday's injury report may provide the final word on Freeman's availability, but the Falcons could be forced to roll with Brian Hill, Kenjon Barner and Qadree Ollison out of the backfield Sunday versus the Bucs.

Not practicing Thursday
Freeman (foot) wasn't practicing in the part of Thursday's session open to the media, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman appears to be kicking off Week 12 prep with back-to-back DNPs, which won't be known until the Falcons post Thursday's injury report. Coach Dan Quinn told McClure on Monday that Freeman may be able to practice Thursday or Friday, so the running back is running out of time to prove the health of his sprained foot.

Sits out Wednesday's practice
Freeman (foot) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: As coach Dan Quinn predicted, Freeman didn't step on the practice field Wednesday, but there's a chance the running back gets out there Thursday and/or Friday. Consequently, the Falcons' two remaining practice reports of Week 12 will give an indication of whether or not his recovery from a sprained foot extends into Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.

Not slated to practice Wednesday
Coach Dan Quinn said that Freeman (foot) won't participate Wednesday in the Falcons' first practice of Week 12, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Quinn wouldn't rule Freeman out from practicing Thursday and/or Friday, however, keeping hope alive for the running back to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday against the Buccaneers. While Freeman's sprained foot kept him from playing in the Falcons' Week 11 win over the Panthers, Brian Hill was thrust into the lead role out of the backfield but failed to capitalize on the opportunity, carrying 15 times for 30 yards and bringing in one of three targets for an eight-yard gain.

Won't play Sunday
Freeman (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Carolina, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: A report at the beginning of the week suggested Freeman was likely to miss a couple games due to a foot sprain. He doesn't appear to have practiced in any capacity this week, so a return for the Falcons' subsequent game Nov. 24 against the Bucs could be a challenge. Brian Hill is expected to lead the Atlanta backfield versus the Panthers, though coach Dan Quinn mentioned that Qadree Ollison would also have a role, per McClure. Not spotted Friday
Freeman (foot) wasn't spotted at Friday's practice, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: It's possible Freeman could get some work in behind the scenes Friday, but it's more likely he will be held out of practice for the third day in a row. Freeman hasn't officially been ruled out for Week 11 just yet, though his chances of playing appear slim at this stage. Brian Hill looks in line to serve as the Falcons' lead back Sunday against the Panthers.

No practice Thursday
Freeman (foot) didn't practice Thursday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: With a sprained foot in tow, Freeman has been unable to do any on-field work this week, which isn't a shock considering he's expected to be sidelined for roughly two weeks as a result of the injury. Once the Falcons rule Freeman out for Sunday's game at Carolina, the backfield officially will be the domain of Brian Hill, with Kenjon Barner and Qadree Ollison in reserve.

Won't practice Wednesday
Freeman (foot) will be held out of Wednesday's practice, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Freeman's lack of participation doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that he's in danger of missing roughly two weeks due to a sprained foot. Per Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, coach Dan Quinn called Freeman a "long shot" for Sunday's contest against the Panthers but hasn't yet ruled him out, though the veteran seems unlikely to suit up before Week 12 at the earliest. Likely out two weeks
Freeman may miss approximately two weeks due to a sprained foot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Falcons haven't outright ruled Freeman out for any game action, but he seems unlikely to suit up Sunday at Carolina and potentially Week 12 against the Buccaneers as well following an MRI on his foot. With Ito Smith (concussion) on injured reserve, Brian Hill is set to lead the Falcons' backfield while Kenjon Barner and Qadree Ollison also could have roles.

Slated to undergo MRI
Freeman is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the foot sprain he suffered in Sunday's win over the Saints, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: For now, Freeman's status for Week 11's game against the Panthers is cloudy, but if he's limited or out for the contest, Brian Hill -- who carried 20 times for 61 yards and hauled in a 10-yard passing TD in relief of Freeman in Week 10 -- would be in line for an expanded role in the Falcons attack.

Ruled out with ankle issue
Freeman won't return to Sunday's contest in New Orleans due to an ankle injury, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Discussed before deadline
Freeman was heavily discussed in trade talks between the Falcons and Lions before Tuesday's deadline, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Freeman is in the second season of a five-year, $41.25 million extension, playing for a team that has no realistic chance to make the playoffs. He's on pace for a 70-544-6 receiving line, but he already has fumbled three times (losing two) and is averaging a career-worst 3.4 yards per carry. Elite receiving production persists
Freeman ran for 39 yards on 13 carries and caught all eight of his targets for 63 receiving yards during Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Seahawks. He also lost a fourth-quarter fumble that led to a Seattle field goal.
Analysis: Atlanta's patchwork offensive line has proven incapable of opening up running lanes, as Freeman has averaged 3.0 yards per carry or worse in six of his eight outings thus far in 2019. What has salvaged a lucrative fantasy year to this point for Freeman is substantial involvement in the passing game, as the 27-year-old back has amassed an incredible 26 receptions for 211 yards and three touchdowns since Week 4. No suspension expected
Freeman isn't expected to face a suspension after he was ejected in the third quarter of the Falcons' Week 7 loss to the Rams for punching Los Angeles' Aaron Donald, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: While meeting with the media Monday, Freeman expressed regrets for his actions and said he wished he had exercised better judgment when he grabbed Donald by the facemask and threw a punch. Freeman's remorse for the incident in addition to the fact that he doesn't have a prior track record of flagrant on-field conduct likely means he won't be subjected to any further punishment from the NFL other than perhaps a small fine.

Ineffective prior to ejection
Freeman ran for 19 yards on seven carries and caught two of three targets for six receiving yards, prior to being ejected for throwing a punch on Aaron Donald during Sunday's 37-10 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: An early exit led to Freeman being held to single-digit carries for just the second time this year, but irrespective of workload, the former Pro Bowl back continues to be largely inefficient as a rusher. He entered Week 7 with a 3.6 yards-per-carry average on the season, and Sunday, he was held to fewer than 2.8 yards per rush for the fifth time over his past seven appearances. Kicked out of Sunday's game
Freeman was ejected during Sunday's 37-10 loss to the Rams, Jason Butt of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Freeman got in a dust-up with defensive lineman Aaron Donald in the second half, throwing a punch during the scuffle. The officiating staff promptly kicked Freeman out of the game, and it remains to be seen if the NFL will levy a punishment. The Falcons lost Ito Smith to a head and neck injury earlier in the contest, so the backfield could be whittled down to Brian Hill, Kenjon Barner and Qadree Ollison next Sunday against the Seahawks.

Two receiving scores in Week 6 loss
Freeman ran for 88 yards on 19 carries and caught all three of his targets for 30 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's 34-33 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: The 27-year-old back has been coming on after a slow start to the season, accumulating an average output of 95.8 scrimmage yards over his past four outings, compared to 47.5 yards per game between Weeks 1 and 2. His pass-catching upside has gone through the roof, as Freeman now has 16 catches for 142 yards over Atlanta's past three games. Another lucrative pass-catching day
Freeman ran for 30 yards on 11 carries and hauled in all five of his targets for 40 receiving yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 53-32 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Freeman just hasn't been able to find many running lines behind this banged-up Falcons' offensive line, logging 2.7 yards per carry or worse in four of five outings to begin the 2019 season. His involvement as a pass catcher out of the backfield has been bailing out fantasy GMs of late: The 27-year-old back has logged a combined 13 catches for 102 yards against the Titans and Texans over the past two weeks. Analysis: With a stagnant rushing output against the formidable Titans front seven in Week 4, Freeman has now been held to fewer than 2.5 yards per rush in three of Atlanta's four outings this year. His receiving production salvaged a lucrative fantasy outing in Week 4, however, as Freeman logged the fourth-highest receiving output of his six-year NFL career. Bounces back with solid Week 3
Freeman ran for 88 yards on 16 carries and caught three of four targets for an output of seven receiving yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to Indianapolis.
Analysis: Freeman finally produced in Week 3 after head coach Dan Quinn alleviated concerns about his health this week, confirming that the veteran back is fully recovered from last year's knee and groin injuries but "just (hadn't) gotten going yet." After rushing for a mere 2.2 yards per carry through the first two weeks of the season, Freeman picked up 5.5 yards per run Sunday against the Colts -- including a 28-yard scamper, his longest since 2017. Health confirmed by coach
Coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Freeman is fully healthy but "just hasn't gotten going yet," Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman has recorded 19 carries for just 41 yards (2.2 YPC) without a touchdown across two contests to begin the 2019 season. It's somewhat encouraging that Freeman's struggles on the ground don't appear related to last year's lower-body injury, which limited him to just two contests, but the veteran running back could be facing pressure to increase his production efficiency in order to continue receiving the lion's share of carries in Atlanta. Quiet on ground again
Freeman carried the ball 11 times for 22 yards, adding 42 receiving yards on three catches (four targets).
Analysis: Freeman's efforts as a receiver barely salvaged what would have been an abysmal effort on the ground. The 27-year-old isn't old by running back standards yet, but he is coming off a serious lower-body injury that limited the back to just two contests in 2018. Freeman is still seeing the lion's share of carries, so there is hope he can break out against a Colts defense that has been gashed on the ground through the first two weeks of the season.

Held in check
Freeman carried the ball eight times for 19 yards in Week 1 against the Vikings. He also added three receptions on four targets for 12 yards.
Analysis: Freeman was unable to get anything going on the ground, as his longest rush went for just five yards. The Falcons fell behind quickly, leading to them largely abandoning the run and somewhat excusing Freeman's down performance. More concerning, however, was the fact that Ito Smith nearly split carries evenly with Freeman after he coughed up a fumble early in the game, as Smith racked up six carries as opposed to Freeman's eight. Makes brief appearance
Freeman carried the ball two times for three yards in Thursday's preseason contest against Washington. He also hauled in his only target for a six-yard reception.
Analysis: Freeman was on the field for only the Falcons' first offensive possession. His most impressive run came on the initial play of the game, which would have gone for nine yards if not for a holding penalty that nullified the gain. Most importantly, Freeman has remained healthy throughout the preseason, and will enter the regular season as the team's primary back.

Looking better than ever
Coach Dan Quinn said Freeman has come back stronger from last year's groin injury, showing improved explosion in his cuts, Jason Butt of The Athletic reports. "[Freeman]'s had an outstanding offseason," Quinn said. "The energy he brought back, starting with OTAs, he's a stronger man than what he was prior to his injury."
Analysis: Held back by a slew of injuries the past two seasons, Freeman returned healthy for the start of the offseason program and has remained that way throughout training camp. The Falcons rested him for their first two preseason games, leaving extra reps for the slew of players competing for backup work -- namely Ito Smith, Brian Hill and Qadree Ollison. Sitting again Thursday
Freeman will be held out of Thursday's preseason contest at Miami, Matthew Tabeek of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Freeman has been injury-prone the past two seasons, missing 16 combined games, so it's not a shock coach Dan Quinn is keeping him on the sidelines. The Falcons' No. 1 running back will thus yield reps to Ito Smith, Qadree Ollison, Brian Hill, Kenjon Barner and Tony Brooks-James in the second of the team's five exhibitions.

Uncontested No. 1 back for Atlanta
Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Sunday that Freeman is the unquestioned starting running back, while a contingent of Ito Smith, Brian Hill and Qadree Ollison battles for the No. 2 role behind him, Kelsey Conway of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: No surprise here. Quinn is making a statement that there exists a clear divide in the Atlanta backfield -- it's Freeman, and then everyone else. Concern with Freeman is all about durability, as the two-time Pro Bowler has missed 16 games the past two years after sitting out just one game during his first three professional seasons. Analysis: The Falcons are facing a five-game exhibition slate instead of the typical quartet, so it's not a shock that players with guaranteed gigs are getting the night off, perhaps the first of many for a player like Freeman during the preseason. With Freeman likely in street clothes, the backfield will be the domain of second-year pro Ito Smith and 2019 fifth-round pick Qadree Ollison out of the gate.

Looking good during offseason
Coach Dan Quinn said Freeman looks like his old self again, Kelsey Conway of the Falcons' official website reports. "He was another one who had so much to prove and to get back out on the field and to recapture his energy and style so quickly," Quinn said. "I was very happy to see that. He looks so much like himself."
Analysis: Entering Year 2 of a five-year, $41.25 million extension, Freeman returned from season-ending groin surgery to participate in OTAs and June minicamp. Between the contract and Tevin Coleman's departure for San Francisco, the Falcons have every incentive to reinstall Freeman as a heavily featured part of their offense. Full go for training camp
Freeman will be "full go" for training camp in mid-July, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, especially since Freeman did not require offseason knee surgery, as the Falcons let valuable backup Tevin Coleman go to the 49ers during the offseason without so much of a whimper. Still it's encouraging to hear that Freeman -- who was limited to two games in 2018 thanks to knee, foot and groin injuries -- will be able to carry the load behind an offensive line that should be improved thanks to two 2019 first-round picks.

Retains No. 1 role
Freeman (groin) is the Falcons' unquestioned No. 1 running back following the free-agent departure of Tevin Coleman, Tim Weaver of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Freeman won't be able to replace Coleman's speed component, but as he returns from an injury-plagued season, the former is slated to retain a substantial share of the Falcons' backfield reps. Among Freeman's competition is 2018 fourth-round pick Ito Smith, who managed 467 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns as Coleman's complement as a rookie. Analysis: Limited to two games this past season, Freeman seemed to be making progress late in the year and might've had a shot to play if the Falcons had reached the playoffs. Alas, they fell out of the hunt around Week 14/15, removing any chance for the running back to return from injured reserve after he had groin surgery in mid-October. Won't return in 2018
Coach Dan Quinn confirmed Wednesday that Freeman (groin) wouldn't be activated from injured reserve ahead of either of the Falcons' final two games of 2018, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With the 5-9 Falcons officially eliminated from playoff contention, there wouldn't be much upside to bringing Freeman back from an extended absence after he required surgery in mid-October to address a core-muscle injury. Freeman, who had also been dealing with a foot injury prior to being shut down, will likely be back at full strength for OTAs and should have a clear path to reclaiming a leading role in 2019 with impending free agent Tevin Coleman unlikely to be retained. Coleman should at…read more

Not expected to return
Freeman (groin) isn't ready to practice and isn't expected to return this season, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: There was some talk about Freeman wanting to return for the final two weeks, but it never felt realistic once the Falcons were eliminated from playoff contention. With Ito Smith (knee) set to join Freeman on injured reserve, Tevin Coleman could be busy over the final two weeks of the season, presumably auditioning for the lead role in a different backfield for 2019. Coleman is in the final season of his rookie contract, while Freeman's five-year, $41.25 million extension runs through 2022. The…read more

Perhaps hoping to play Week 16
Coach Dan Quinn said he gets the sense Freeman (groin) wants to return for Week 16 if he is deemed healthy enough to do so, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman has been back in Atlanta with his teammates since the first week of December, but it's hard to see how he could be cleared for Week 16 given that he still hasn't participated in practice. While a Week 17 appearance sounds somewhat more reasonable, there isn't much to be gained from subjecting a rusty veteran running back to live hits in a meaningless game. Freeman probably won't be tasked with a large workload if he does make it back this season.

Return in 2018 not ruled out
Coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Freeman (groin) remains a candidate to return from injured reserve this season, Jason Butt of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Falcons placed Freeman on injured reserve back on Oct. 16 after it was revealed that he would require surgery to address a sports hernia. Freeman, who had been away from the team for much of the past two months while conducting his rehab in Philadelphia, is now back in Atlanta and is being evaluated on a week-to-week basis, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Freeman is eligible to return from IR ahead of Week 15, but with the running back having yet to resume…read more
