Stays in NFC East
Mayo signed a contract with The Washington Football Team on Thursday.
Analysis: A Dave Gettleman holdover from their mutual time in Carolina (2015-2017), Mayo spent the past two seasons with the Giants before being released Mar. 3. Just over two weeks later, Mayo has settled in with one of his ex-employer's fiercest rivals. The 27-year-old made 11 appearances last season, starting twice while accumulating 29 tackles and a forced fumble.

Good to go Sunday
Mayo (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, according to Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site.
Analysis: Mayo was considered questionable with the knee issue, but it won't prevent him from suiting up Sunday. The 27-year-old has filled a rotational role in New York's linebacking corps this season.

Questionable with knee injury
Mayo (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Seattle, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Mayo missed this season's first five games with a knee injury, but it's unclear if the injury bothering him now is related to that earlier absence. Promising rookie seventh-round pick Tae Crowder would likely see an uptick in playing time if Mayo's out or limited Sunday.

Returns from injured reserve
Mayo (knee) was activated off injured reserve Friday, Michael Elsen of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old missed the first five games of the season after undergoing surgery to address a torn meniscus he suffered in late August, but he's poised to make his season debut Sunday. Mayo had 82 tackles and two sacks in 16 games for New York last season and should step into a significant role in the linebacker rotation.

Back at practice
Mayo (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: This is huge news for the veteran, as he's missed the first four games of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus he suffered in training camp. It's unclear when Mayo will be able to return, but now that he's back at practice, the Giants have 21 days to active him off injured reserve. In the meantime, Blake Martinez and Devante Downs are expected to continue to start at inside linebacker.

Shifts to IR
The Giants placed Mayo (knee) on injured reserve Sunday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Mayo suffered a torn meniscus during training camp, so this transaction was an expected move by the club. The veteran will be a tough loss to begin the season, as he recorded 82 tackles and two sacks in 16 games (13 starts) for the Giants last season. Mayo is now ruled out for the first eight weeks of the season at least, so in his stead, look for Tae Crowder to see a slight uptick in snaps at inside linebacker.

Suffers torn meniscus
Mayo was diagnosed Wednesday with a torn meniscus in his knee, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Mayo, who is scheduled for surgery Thursday, was one of two significant defenders the Giants lost to injuries this week, as rookie safety Xavier McKinney is slated to go under the knife later Wednesday to address a broken foot. The linebacker recorded 82 tackles and two sacks in 16 games (13 starts) for the Giants last season, playing 56.9 percent of defensive snaps. Vacchiano believes Mayo eventually will be placed on injured reserve, which would rule him out for the first eight weeks of the…read more
