Good to go Sunday
Callahan (groin) has been ruled active for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Analysis: Callahan will return following his one-game hiatus due to a groin injury. Expect him to reprise his role as the Bolts' nickel cornerback alongside starters Michael Davis and Asante Samuel.

Questionable against Titans
Callahan (groin) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Analysis: Callahan missed the Chargers' Week 14 win over the Dolphins but was able to practice all week. Given that he turned in a full session Friday, he looks to have a decent chance to return to the field in Week 15 against the Titans. Callahan has served a significant role in the secondary and has tallied 40 total tackles with six passes defended and three interceptions across 12 games on the season.

Officially unavailable
Callahan (abdomen) is inactive Sunday against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Callahan was unable to practice Thursday or Friday due to an abdomen injury, and he'll officially be held out after being listed as doubtful. Ja'Sir Taylor and Deane Leonard could see increased playing time Sunday night.

Listed as doubtful
Callahan (abdomen) is doubtful for Sunday's matchup against Miami.
Analysis: Callahan opened Week 14 prep as a limited participant due to an abdomen injury, but he was downgraded to a non-participant during Thursday and Friday's session. The severity of the issue remains unclear, but the undrafted corner will likely have to miss at least one contest. In Callahan's expected absence, Ja'Sir Taylor and Deane Leonard are candidates for increased roles behind Asante Samuel and Michael Davis.

Dealing with injury
Callahan is considered day-to-day with a core muscle injury, Bridget Condon of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Callahan was a late addition to the Chargers' final Week 13 injury report with what was designated as a groin injury. However, he was ultimately ruled active and recorded an pick-six while playing 51 percent of the team's defensive snaps in Sunday's 27-20 loss to Las Vegas. While it's unclear if this groin issue is related to his new abdomen injury, Callahan may be in jeopardy of missing his first game of the season Week 14. It will be worth monitoring the cornerback's activity level in…read more

Set to play Sunday
Callahan (groin) has been ruled active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Callahan was a surprise addition to Friday's injury report after he apparently picked up a groin injury during Week 13 prep. However, this issue does not appear significant enough to keep him sidelined against Las Vegas, and he should continue to play a prominent role behind starting cornerbacks Michael Davis and Asante Samuel.

Downgraded Sunday
Callahan (groin) is now questionable Sunday against the Raiders, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Callahan logged full practices Thursday and Friday, so it's unclear when he may have picked up the injury, but he is now in danger of sitting out Week 13. If he's unable to play, Deane Leonard and Ja'Sir Taylor will likely have a chance for increased opportunities.

Headed to LA
Callahan agreed to a one-year deal with the Chargers on Tuesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Analysis: Callahan has spent the last three seasons with Denver, after spending the previous four with the Bears. He appeared in 11 games in 2021, missing time with a knee injury, and totaled 29 tackles (25 solo) and four passes defensed. Callahan has crossed paths with Chargers head coach Brandon Staley before, first while they were together in Chicago and in 2019 with Denver, although Callahan missed that season with a foot injury. Back to active roster
Callahan was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan will be eligible to play now Saturday against the Chiefs. With Ronald Darby (shoulder) and Patrick Surtain (calf) questionable, Callahan could be returning to a significant role in the secondary.

Lands on COVID list
Callahan (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan tested positive for the virus, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Though he could still clear protocols in time for Sunday's game against the Chargers, his status is certainly in jeopardy. Callahan was bothered by a knee injury earlier in the season, but he has still managed 25 tackles, four passes defended and a sack across 10 contests.

Taken off injured reserve
Callahan (knee) has been activated from injured reserve and is expected to play against the Lions on Sunday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: After missing the last four games with a knee injury that looked far more gruesome at the time, Callahan has been taken off injured reserve. This is a big boost for the Broncos defense as the corner recorded four pass deflections and 21 tackles through his first eight games. Callahan's return will complement standout rookie Patrick Surtain nicely, as the duo will form a secondary that can be extremely dangerous for the remainder of the season.

Nearing return
Callahan (knee) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Callahan has missed four games with the injury, so he is eligible to return as soon as he is cleared medically. Prior to going down, Callahan had played more than half of the team's defensive snaps in all but one contest, racking up 21 total tackles and four passes defended.

Lands on IR
The Broncos placed Callahan (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Callahan injured his knee in the Broncos' Week 8 matchup with Washington, and he is expected to miss at least a few weeks. Denver anticipates Callahan will be able to return this season, as the injury likely doesn't require surgery. Expect Kyle Fuller and Nate Hairston to see extended opportunities for the Broncos' secondary until Callahan is able to return from injured reserve.

Headed to IR
Callahan (knee) is expected to be placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: The cornerback hurt his knee Sunday versus Washington and now appears likely to miss an extended period of time. The Broncos don't believe the injury will require surgery, but for the time being, Kyle Fuller and Nate Hairston will take on increased roles in the Denver secondary.

Hurts knee Sunday
Callahan hurt his knee in Sunday's win over Washington, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Callahan hyperextended his leg when he got hurt, which is never good. While it sounds like the Broncos don't believe it will be season-ending, more will be known after tests are performed Monday.

Filling nickelback role
Callahan (foot) will operate as the Broncos' primary nickelback in 2021 now that the team has added Kyle Fuller to the roster, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: With Fuller now joining Callahan in Denver's defensive backfield, coach Vic Fangio will be working with two cornerbacks from the Bears' 2018 defense -- a unit that secured first-place finishes in takeaways and scoring defense. Fuller and the newly acquired Ronald Darby are expected to step in as Denver's primary perimeter cornerbacks next season, while Callahan will be responsible for containing receivers out of the slot. Won't return for finale
Callahan (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Raiders, but Broncos coach Vic Fangio relayed the cornerback will not need surgery, Denver7's Troy Renck reports.
Analysis: Callahan's nagging foot injury will keep him sidelined for a fifth consecutive contest, but optimism surrounds his offseason outlook as surgery is not currently in the forecast. His 2020 campaign comes to an end with 42 tackles (36 solo), five passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery in 10 games.

Looking unlikely to return
Callahan (foot) is not expected to retake the field this season, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that Callahan's foot injury isn't healing as well as the team hoped, and considering that he won't be eligible to come off IR until at least Week 16, it seems probable that the veteran cornerback could simply be shut down for the year. He had 42 tackles, five defended passes, two interceptions and one fumble recovery in 10 contests.

Shifts to IR
The Broncos placed Callahan (foot) on injured reserve Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Callahan won't be eligible to come off IR until Week 16 at the earliest, so it remains to be seen whether he'll suit up again for the Broncos this season. For at least the next three contests, in any case, Essang Bassey and Michael Ojemudia are both candidates to handle increased defensive roles.

Set to miss time
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Callahan (foot) is "going to miss some time," Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: A foot injury cost Callahan the 2019 season. He appeared on the injury report last week with a foot issue but was able to suit up Sunday against the Saints. While it's unclear if it's related to his past problem, it's concerning nonetheless. Callahan can be confidently ruled out for the Week 13 matchup against the Chiefs, and it wouldn't be surprising if this was a multi-week absence.

Aggravates foot injury
Callahan was forced out of Sunday's game against the Saints with a foot injury, Patrick Smyth of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan entered the weekend questionable due to a foot injury, and it appears that he aggravated the issue at some point Sunday. A starting cornerback, Callahan has played nearly every snap on defense this season. Essang Bassey and Michael Ojemudia should both see increases in reps with Callahan sidelined.

Gets green light
Callahan (foot) will be available for Sunday's game against the Saints, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Callahan was originally listed as questionable for the contest. Barring any setbacks, look for him to take on his usual responsibilities starting opposite A.J. Bouye at cornerback.

Not practicing Wednesday
Callahan didn't practice Wednesday due to a foot injury, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: The 29-year-old played every defensive snap Sunday against the Dolphins, but he apparently picked up the foot injury at some point. Callahan has allowed only a 44.8 passer rating this season, per Pro Football Focus, so it would be a big loss if he doesn't improve in time for this weekend's matchup with New Orleans.

Active for Week 11
Callahan (illness) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Callahan came down with a non-COVID-related illness Friday, handing him a questionable tag entering Sunday. Having fought off the issue in time for kickoff, the former Bear readies for his ninth start of the 2020 campaign. Thus far in his first active season for the Broncos, Callahan has not surrendered a touchdown in coverage. He has also collected two interceptions while holding opponents to a sub-58 percent completion rate.

Handed questionable tag
Callahan (illness) is questionable for Sunday's home game versus the Dolphins, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan was unable to practice Friday after coming down with an illness that apparently isn't related to COVID-19. Playing at home this week provides Callahan a better chance to shake this sickness and play against Miami, but he could miss his second game in three weeks. If that's the case, Michael Ojemudia and Essang Bassey are expected to handle more responsibility against Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins.

Falls ill Friday
Callahan (illness) was sent home Friday with a non-COVID-19 illness and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Callahan will need to feel better in a hurry in order to suit up Sunday. If he's unable to give it a go, Essang Bassey should see more snaps for a Denver cornerback corps that could also be without A.J. Bouye (hip).

Will play Sunday
Callahan (ankle) is active for Sunday's game at Las Vegas.

Questionable but expected to play
Callahan (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders, but coach Vic Fangio believes the cornerback will be able to play, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan practiced fully Friday after being limited earlier in the week, which bodes well for his chances of suiting up. Then again, Callahan was also expected to play last week against Atlanta before ultimately being declared inactive.

Should return Week 10
Coach Vic Fangio said he hopes Callahan (ankle) will practice this week and play Sunday against the Raiders, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: The 29-year-old was considered questionable for Sunday's loss to the Falcons and was expected to play, but he ended up inactive for the contest. Callahan likely will need to put in a full practice at some point this week to avoid an injury designation for next weekend.

Sitting out Sunday
Callahan (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Falcons.
Analysis: Coach Vic Fangio was optimistic Friday that Callahan would be ready for Sunday's cross-conference clash, but the 29-year-old cornerback may have suffered a setback in warmups. The Broncos are without fellow starting cornerback A.J. Bouye (concussion) as well, leaving Michael Ojemudia, Duke Dawson and Essang Bassey to slow down a Falcons' offense that will be without Calvin Ridley (ankle).

Questionable but likely playing
Callahan (ankle) is officially questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons, but head coach Vic Fangio reiterated Friday that he expects Callahan to play, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
Analysis: Barring a setback in pregame warmups, Callahan should be able to tough it out. He practiced on a limited basis after missing Wednesday's practice entirely and will look to build on his solid season totals of 32 tackles and two interceptions through seven games.

Trending in right direction
Head coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that Callahan (ankle) will practice on limited basis this week but should be available to play Sunday against the Falcons, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Callahan was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice estimate, so this news is much more positive for the team. If all goes well this week, expect Callahan to handle his usual starting duties at one of the cornerback positions for Week 9. The Rice product has racked up 32 tackles (26 solo), four pass breakups and two interceptions through seven games this season.

No practice due to ankle
Callahan (ankle) was listed as a nonparticipant in Wednesday's practice estimate, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan missed all of last season with a foot injury and battled a wrist injury earlier this season, but this is the first time he's appearing on the injury report with an ankle injury. Whether Callahan's able to practice later this week will go a long way in determining whether this absence was precautionary or actually threatens his status for Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Returns to full practice
Callahan (wrist) was listed as a full participant in Tuesday's practice, putting him on track to suit up Thursday against the Jets, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan's absence Monday looks to have just been a rest day after a busy Week 3 in which he played all but two of Denver's defensive snaps. He should be good to go at the Meadowlands on a short week.

Listed as DNP on practice estimate
Callahan (wrist) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Callahan didn't appear injured during Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers, as he played 66 of 68 defensive snaps (97 percent) and recorded three solo tackles. It's possible the issue flared up following the game, and the DNP start to the week is a bit concerning. His status should be watched closely as the Broncos go on the road on a short week, although Thursday's matchup against the Jets is favorable regardless.

Looks comfortable in practice
Callahan appears to have rebounded well from foot surgery after missing the entire 2019 season, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: A broken foot has kept Callahan out of action since Week 13 of the 2018 season. He was expected to help the Broncos' secondary adjust to head coach Vic Fangio's scheme as a free-agent acquisition in 2019, but pain and discomfort relating to a screw in his foot sidelined him for the season. Defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said Thursday that Callahan (foot) is medically "ready to go," Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Callahan missed the entire 2019 campaign due to a foot injury, but he's now on track for training camp and has already resumed running at full speed. He should slot into a key role in Denver's' secondary Week 1, barring any setbacks. Behind starter A.J. Hopeful for 2020 opener
GM John Elway indicated the Broncos "are hoping" Callahan (foot) will be ready to go this year, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Callahan was a prized free-agent addition last offseason but ultimately missed the entire year due to a foot injury. Elway's comments essentially reiterate what head coach Vic Fangio stated last month. The 28-year-old recently restructured his contract and will make $5 million in 2020 with another $2 million worth of incentives.

Restructures contract
Callahan (foot) agreed to restructure his contract, freeing up $1.8 million of cap space for the Broncos in 2020, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Callahan will make $5 million in 2020 with the opportunity to make another $2 million worth of incentives. The 28-year-old was a prized free-agent addition from the Bears last offseason, but he missed all of 2019 due to a foot injury. Head coach Vic Fangio said Callahan's recovering well from foot surgery, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Fangio -- who coached Callahan in Chicago in 2018 before accepting the head coaching gig in Denver for 2019 -- relayed that the cornerback is progressing "much better" from his second foot surgery. Hits injured reserve
The Broncos will place Callahan (foot) on injured reserve Friday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Callahan (foot) resumed practicing Nov. 12 and appeared to be nearing a return to full health, but the screw in his foot got bent thus requiring him to undergo surgery in the near future, according to Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com. The 28-year-old's 2019 campaign will conclude without taking a single snap. On a brighter note for the Broncos, Callahan's placement on IR opens up a spot for Tim Patrick (hand) to return to the 53-man roster.

In danger of hitting IR
Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that "it's looking more and more" likely that Callahan (foot) will be placed on injured reserve, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Callahan is nursing a foot injury he initially suffered at the end of the 2018 season. The 28-year-old returned to the practice field Tuesday, his first participation of the season, but he then suffered a setback related to soreness in his foot. It's looking increasingly probable that Callahan won't take the field at any point in 2019, though he'll retain at least a chance to play until such time as the Broncos officially place him on injured reserve.

Callahan (foot) has an increasing likelihood of being placed on injured reserve, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

Callahan (foot) is scheduled to practice Tuesday, but there remains no guarantee that he will play this season,Troy Renck of ABC Denver7 reports.
Analysis: Callahan was supposed to play a big role in Denver's defensive scheme after coming over from Chicago with ex-Bears DC Vic Fangio this offseason. Unfortunately, Callahan was never able to fully shake a foot injury he originally suffered at the end of 2018, and the cornerback has yet to take the field in 2019.
