Placed on IR
The Bills placed Milano (biceps) on IR and designated him to return Tuesday.
Analysis: Milano was diagnosed with a torn biceps Aug. 15, and he will likely miss a majority of the 2024 campaign. The veteran linebacker will be eligible to return at some point during the season, but his absence will provide increased snaps for Terrel Bernard, Dorian Williams and Nicholas Morrow.

Diagnosed with torn biceps
Milano has been diagnosed with a torn biceps and will undergo surgery with the hope of returning late in the 2024 season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter suggests that returning in December might be a reasonable goal for Milano, whose 2023 campaign ended Week 5 when he suffered a fractured leg. The linebacker worked his way back to full health and had been participating in training camp without limitations, but he's now set to miss a majority of his age-30 season, leaving more snaps at linebacker available for Dorian Williams and Nicholas Morrow (groin). Terrel Bernard appears locked in for an every-down role and is Buffalo's best IDP…read more

Past leg issue
General manager Brandon Beane told reporters that Milano will participate fully in Wednesday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Milano fractured his leg during Week 5 of the Bills' 2023 campaign, but it now appears as if he's moved past the issue. The veteran linebacker is an integral part of Buffalo's defense, and he's expected to remain one of the team's top inside linebackers now that he's returned from injury.

Limited at minicamp
Coach Sean McDermott said Milano (leg) will be limited at Tuesday's practice, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Milano is working his way back from a right leg fracture, and while McDermott said earlier this offseason that it likely won't be until training camp that he participates in drills, it's encouraging to see the veteran already practicing in a limited capacity. The standout linebacker appears on a good track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season, barring any setbacks.

Recovering as scheduled
Milano (leg) is on schedule in his recovery from a fractured leg, Dan Fetes of 13WHAM reports.
Analysis: Milano is still in recovery mode, and he likely won't participate in drills until closer to training camp, coach Sean McDermott indicated this week. However, as long as the linebacker stays on schedule, he should be ready to go when Week 1 of the 2024 campaign begins.

No timeline yet
Milano (leg) doesn't have a rehab timeline, though Bills GM Brandon Beane said Tuesday that the linebacker is "probably closer to being through rehab" than cornerback Tre'Davious White (Achilles), Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Bills lost two of their best defenders to season-ending injuries in early October, with Milano fracturing his leg one week after White tore an Achilles' tendon. The latter is more likely to be a concern for 2024, though it's certainly possible Milano's rehab process impacts his spring/summer as he prepares for his age-30 season. The linebacker is under contract through 2026, including a fully guaranteed $4.125 million base salary (and $12.437 million cap hit) for 2024.

Not expected to return this season
Coach Sean McDermott said Friday he doesn't believe Milano (leg) has a chance to return from IR this season, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Milano suffered a fractured right leg in early October, one of numerous brutal injuries for Buffalo's defense this season. At the time of Milano's injury, McDermott insinuated that the All-Pro linebacker could have a chance to return down the stretch, but it sounds like that's no longer in play. As such, Milano's attention will be turned to making a full recovery for the 2024 campaign.

Shifts to IR
The Bills placed Milano (leg) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Milano is set to miss significant time due to a fractured right leg suffered during Sunday's loss to the Jaguars, so his move to IR comes as little surprise. Buffalo is also awaiting the results of an MRI to determine whether the All-Pro linebacker has suffered an additional knee injury, though Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic relays that head coach Sean McDermott said "the door hasn't been shut" on Milano making a return down the stretch.

Fractures leg, likely done for 2023
Milano has been diagnosed with a fractured leg and is also feared to have suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Milano is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his knee as the Bills look to determine whether he suffered any ligament damage, but even if the fractured leg is the most serious of his injuries, the star linebacker appears set to miss extended time. The loss of Milano is a significant for the Buffalo defense, as the 29-year-old was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022 and was off to another strong start to the first five games of the 2023 season with 30 tackles, two interceptions and a forced…read more

Ruled out Sunday
Milano (knee), who won't return to Sunday's game against the Jaguars, had a full cast on his leg from his shin to his thigh after being carted off the field, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Milano registered three tackles before the injury occurred. Per Rapoport, the full cast on Milano's right leg is indicative of a major injury, and the star linebacker could miss significant time this season.

Leaves with knee injury
Milano suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London and won't return. He recorded three tackles prior to departing.
Analysis: Milano was carted to the locker room and had an air cast on his leg. The seventh-year linebacker fills a key role on the Buffalo defense and had compiled 30 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble through five games this season. Dorian Williams came off the bench to replace Milano in the lineup.

Picks off another pass
Milano recorded four tackles and an interception in Sunday's 38-10 win versus Las Vegas.
Analysis: With the game already in hand and the Raiders in desperation mode, Milano jumped in front of a Jimmy Garoppolo pass intended for Josh Jacobs late in the third quarter to notch his second interception of the year. He's also still on pace for more than 100 tackles over a full season and is therefore a fine option at IDP heading into a Week 3 matchup at Washington.

Eight tackles, interception in loss
Milano recorded eight tackles (three solo) while also intercepting a pass and deflecting another in Monday's 22-16 overtime loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Milano was very active on the Bills' defense as per usual, and he was able to slide in front of Zach Wilson's pass for an interception late in the first half. The linebacker matched his career high with three picks in 2022 and he's off to a strong start this season.

Back to work
Milano was able to practice Sunday after missing Friday's session due to general soreness, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: There never seemed to be any real concern for Buffalo's best linebacker, who should be slated to pick up a slew of tackles this season while surrounded by a crew of talented yet unproven linebacker teammates.

Misses Friday's session
Milano missed practice Friday due to general soreness, Alec White and Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site report.
Analysis: The Bills often bake in a few rest days for veterans like Milano during the grueling summer work anyway, so this doesn't sound like anything serious for the team's best linebacker. Milano will be counted on to do even more this season with Tremaine Edmunds off to Chicago in free agency, so he's a good bet -- health permitting -- to reach 100-plus tackles for the first time since the 2019 season.

Gets two more years
Milano signed a two-year contract extension Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Milano's contract will now run through the 2026 season while also creating $6 million in cap space this offseason for the Bills. The veteran linebacker completed arguably his best statistical season in 2022, recording 99 tackles (72 solo), 1.5 sacks, 11 passes defended and three interceptions. He'll remain an integral piece of the Bills defense next season and likely multiple years beyond that now.

Moderate effort in win
Milano recorded six tackles (four solo) and one pass defensed during Saturday's 35-13 win over the Bears.
Analysis: Milano logged a respectable six stops in the Week 16 contest versus Chicago, as he now has 91 total tackles across 14 games played this year. The 223-pound linebacker should once again play a significant role defensively when the Bills square up against Cincinnati next Monday night.

Collects eight stops in win
Milano finished with eight tackles (three solo) in Saturday's game against the Bills.
Analysis: Milano hasn't missed a defensive snap since Week 6, recording 53 tackles (35 solo), 1.5 sacks, one pass defended and one interception over this stretch. The linebacker shouldn't have much difficulty recording 100-plus tackles for the first time since 2019, assuming he's able to remain healthy. He's at 85 with three games left.

Good to go Week 15
Milano (knee) does not carry an injury designation ahead of Saturday's game versus Miami.
Analysis: Milano has been considered day-to-day with a knee injury that kept him sidelined during practice Tuesday and Wednesday. While he only managed to log a limited session Thursday, the linebacker is nonetheless still scheduled to play Saturday. Milano followed a similar practice structure last week before playing every defensive snap in Sunday's win over the Jets, so his usage doesn't figure to be limited while facing Miami's high-flying offense either. Milano (knee) will not practice Wednesday, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.

Logs nine tackles, recovers fumble
Milano recorded nine tackles (seven solo), two passes defensed and one fumble recovery in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Milano, who entered the Week 14 matchup versus the Jets with a questionable tag due to a knee issue, didn't show any signs of injury with his game-high nine stops. The 28-year old also recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to keep it a two-score game, and he'll now enter this weekend's contest against Miami with another anticipated every-down role.

Questionable for Week 14
The Bills list Milano (knee) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: After missing the first two practices of the week, Milano was able to log a limited practice Friday, opening the door for him to play this weekend. The linebacker picked up the knee injury in the Bills' Week 13 win over the Patriots. If Milano is unable to play versus the Jets, the Bills could turn to A.J. Milano will have two more opportunities to get back on the practice field before the Bills decide whether he carries an injury designation into Sunday's contest against the Jets. Fills box score in win
Milano recorded 12 tackles (eight solo), including one sack, and recovered a fumble during Sunday's 31-23 win over the Browns.
Analysis: The 28-year-old showed up all over the field with fellow starting linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin) sidelined Week 11. Milano recorded double-digit tackles for the second time this season, and he also came away with his first turnover and first sack of the season. Even though Milano already played nearly every defensive snap in all but two of his nine games this season, he could continue to see increased production if Edmunds remains out against Detroit on Thanksgiving Day.

Analysis: Several Bills missed practice Wednesday due to illness, as the hits are starting to pile up for a team that's lost two straight games, contests where it had double-digit leads in each. Outlook better for Week 10
Coach Sean McDermott said Monday that Milano, who missed Sunday's loss to the Jets with an oblique injury, "is improving," Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The Bills have a fantastic defense, but they are not very deep at linebacker and got absolutely gashed by the Jets' running game without Milano out there. Milano is an impactful enough player that those who roster Minnesota players will want to pay attention to his status leading up to Sunday's Week 10 matchup featuring two of the league's elite teams.

Inactive, as expected
Milano (oblique) is inactive Week 9 against the Jets.

Milano (oblique), who is listed as questionable, isn't expected to play in Sunday's game against the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Milano managed to resume practicing in a limited capacity Friday, but he still doesn't appear to have made enough progress in his recovery from the oblique injury he suffered last Sunday against the Packers to play this weekend. If Milano is indeed placed on Buffalo's inactive list ahead of Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, rookie third-round pick Terrel Bernard will likely enter the starting lineup in his place.

Questionable for Week 9
Milano (oblique) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Milano finally returned to a limited practice Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday, so at least he's trending in the right direction. Milano suffered an oblique injury in Monday night's win over the Packers, according to head coach Sean McDermott, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Milano was able to play 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in the contest, and he walked away with five tackles, a pass defensed and an interception. Milano recorded 13 tackles (11 solo), including two for loss, during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Milano led the team in tackles by notching a season-high 13 stops, giving him 27 through the first four games of the campaign. Milano (neck) was a full participant during Wednesday's walk-through practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Milano was ruled out for the remainder of Monday's blowout win over the Titans after suffering what was initially reported as a stinger. He's now being listed with a neck injury, but it doesn't appear to be a major issue and he should be good to go for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins. Milano (hamstring) remains a true game-time decision for Sunday's contest against the Chiefs, Josina Anderson of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Anderson reports that Milano will go through a workout with Buffalo's trainer and linebacker coaches ahead of the game, which will determine his status for Sunday night's contest. If the 27-year-old is available, he will likely not be at 100 percent, but the Bills defense is a better unit when he is out there, even if not at full health.

Iffy for Sunday Night Football
Milano (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Kansas City.
Analysis: Given his practice level this week of DNP-DNP-Limited, Milano looks like he'll truly come down to a game-time decision, and it's likely that if he does suit up he won't be anywhere close to 100 percent. Still, he's proven to be so versatile and consistent with his defensive play that the Bills are a better team when he's on the field, even if not at full health. The team will certainly hope Milano can suit up for the important game between AFC titans.

Murky for Week 5
Millano did not practice Thursday for the second straight day due to a hamstring injury.
Analysis: The starting linebacker is probably going to have to log some form of activity Friday ahead of a big matchup against the Chiefs. The Bills have had a difficult enough time trying to slow down Patrick Mahomes & Co. in recent matchups, so coming up with a scheme to do so without one of their key defenders would add even more to the challenge.

Misses opening practice
Milano did not practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Milano left Sunday's win over Houston, and it was pretty apparent right away that he wasn't coming back, so his status will be very much in jeopardy for this week's AFC Championship rematch with the Chiefs. Milano is arguably the team's most consistent defender, so some careful planning would be involved if the Bills have to backfill his role this week, especially when you consider the weapons presented by the opponent.

Milano is doubtful to return to Sunday's game against the Texans due to a hamstring injury, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Recovers fumble in win
Milano had six tackles (five solo), a pass defensed and a fumble recovery during Sunday's 43-21 win over Washington.
Analysis: Milano played all 54 defensive snaps and finished second on the team in tackles, two of which went for a loss. The six tackles were a season high for the 27-year-old, who has 16 tackles (14 solo), a sack and two fumble recoveries through three games.

Fills up box score
Milano posted five tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in the win over Miami on Sunday.
Analysis: While Milano's 10 tackles through two games falls short of his usual pace, he's contributing elsewhere in the box score and looks fantastic early in the season. Milano also would have likely produced more had he not been given some rest late in Sunday's blowout game, as he finished with just 78 percent of the defensive snaps when he's typically close to 100. Also encouraging is that Milano was allowed to rush the passer more than we've seen in the past. As a former 101-tackle guy in 2019,…read more

Milano (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday.
Analysis: Milano was limited at Wednesday's practice due to the ankle issue, but his quick return to full participation indicates it's not a serious concern. The 27-year-old totaled five tackles (four solo) and one pass breakup while playing every defensive snap during Sunday's season opener, and he'll be available for Week 2 barring a setback.

Starts week limited
Milano was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
Analysis: The linebacker wasn't his usual tackle-mongering self in Sunday's loss to the Steelers, posting just four stops, so perhaps the ankle was nagging at him on the field. That said, the fact that he was still able to practice to some degree this early in the week leaves his game status in decent shape for Week 2, when the Bills will take on the rival Dolphins.

Staying in Buffalo
Milano is re-signing with the Bills on a four-year, $44 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Milano reportedly gets $24 million guaranteed, though we'll note that initial reports often prove inaccurate on contract details. The 2017 fifth-round pick would've been one of the top linebackers available in free agency, with his coverage skills making him more valuable than the traditional stats suggest. And to be fair, Milano has enjoyed some stretches of decent IDP production, including career highs for tackles (101) and pass defenses (nine) in 2019. A pectoral injury then limited him to…read more

Milano is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The starting outside linebacker was hampered by injuries in 2020, but there's no doubt the Bills are a better team when he's out there doing his thing with fellow starter Tremaine Edmunds. In fact, of the 13 regular and postseason games that Milano played in, Sunday's loss to the Chiefs was the only one the Bills lost. Big numbers in big win
Milano posted eight tackles and a sack in Monday's 38-9 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: This was easily Milano's best game since he came back from a pectoral injury in Week 13, and it was also his first contest where he saw more than 50 percent of the defensive snaps in that span. Milano played 88 percent of the defensive plays Monday, as much as any other Buffalo defender, which means he was on the field for all the action until the game was out of hand and the starters were rested. Makes bigger impact
Milano, in his second game back from an IR stint due to a pectoral injury, posted two tackles, a sack and one pass defensed in Sunday's win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Milano still isn't all the way back, but he was out there for 47 percent of the defensive snaps vs. 31 percent the previous week. He also appeared to be in on the action more, while his sack was a key play in what was a tight game until the fourth quarter. Analysis: Milano had managed to play through his lingering pectoral injury the last two games, though he was limited to a third or less of defensive snaps versus both the Jets and Patriots. Milano (pectoral) is active for Sunday's game versus the Patriots.
Analysis: Milano returned to the lineup last week after a two-game hiatus, and he didn't handle his typical workload, playing just 33 percent of the defensive snaps. Eased back in
Milano tallied two tackles and half a sack during Sunday's win at the Jets after missing the two previous games with a pectoral injury.
Analysis: Milano is still far from perfect health, as coach Sean McDermott has stated the team will have to build up his reps. He was only able to play 19 defensive snaps Sunday, though given the magnitude of this week's game against the rival Patriots -- plus the extra week of healing -- we'd expect Milano to have a significant jump in play count for Week 8.

Milano (pectoral) is active for Sunday's game at the Jets.
Analysis: Milano was a true question mark after missing Week 5 and 6, both prime-time losses for the Bills where their defense got exposed while missing a bunch of plays Milano usually is around. Milano (pectoral) was considered a limited practice participant for Thursday's jog-through session, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: While this wasn't a rigorous practice after the Bills got back at it following a rare Tuesday game, Milano did miss practice all last week before ultimately missing the Week 5 contest, so this bodes well for his chances of suiting up for another primetime game Monday, this time against the Chiefs. Milano (pectoral) did not participate in Saturday's walkthrough practice and has been ruled out for Tuesday's game in Tennessee, the Bills official site reports.

Milano posted eight tackles, a sack, a pass defensed and two quarterback hits during Sunday's win over the Rams.

Analysis: Milano sat out of Week 2's matchup versus the Dolphins, but he practiced fully Friday and is ready to rock Sunday. It's unclear if he'll face any sort of pitch count in his return to action, but if he logs a full workload, he's a solid IDP contributor coming off a 101-tackle season.

Analysis: The third-year linebacker bounced back quite well from a broken leg that ended his 2018 campaign early, working with fellow young stud Tremaine Edmunds to form a nice linebacker tandem for what proved to be one of the NFL's better defenses.
