Limited coming out of bye
Hurst (Achilles) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Hurst is still a little banged up coming out of the Chargers' Week 5 bye, though he has two opportunities left to upgrade to full participation and avoid the injury report for Sunday's game against the Broncos. He has been splitting snaps with Will Dissly in a Chargers offense that hasn't thrown the ball much to its tight ends.

Only three targets in loss
Hurst caught one of his three targets for six yards in the 17-10 loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
Analysis: Hurst played more than his teammate Will Dissly (35 snaps to 20), but the Chargers' two-TE sets haven't been favorable for either player's pass-catching production. The team's run-heavy offensive scheme is limiting the fantasy upside of both tight ends, as neither Hurst nor Dissly have topped 35 yards in a game this season.

Good to go Sunday
Hurst (Achilles) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Chiefs and is expected to play.
Analysis: Hurst was limited Wednesday and Thursday, but he got in a full practice Friday and is cleared to play against Kansas City. The veteran tight end has yet to top two catches in a game this season and enters Week 4 with a 5-53-0 receiving line. Hurst isn't a recommended fantasy play.

Limited practice Wednesday
Hurst was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an Achilles injury.
Analysis: Hurst managed an ankle injury ahead of this past Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers, but he suited up and reeled in two targets for 15 yards. Now that the tight end is dealing with a different injury in Week 4, his status will need to be tracked as Sunday's game against the Chiefs approaches.

Catches two passes against Steelers
Hurst caught both of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Hursts' underwhelming start to the 2024 season continued Sunday. The veteran tight end had the slight edge in playing time over teammate Will Dissly, as Hurst played 28 offensive snaps compared to Dissly's 23 snaps. Given his limited usage through three games while he remains stuck in a timeshare with Dissly, Hurst doesn't make for an appealing fantasy option heading into the Chargers' Week 4 matchup with the Chiefs.

Clear for Sunday
Hurst (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Hurst kicked off Week 3 prep with back-to-back limited sessions due to an ankle injury, but it won't stop him from being available this weekend. There's a cloud hanging over QB Justin Herbert due to a high ankle sprain, which eventually may thrust Easton Stick into the starting lineup Sunday. Hurst has turned only five targets into three catches for 38 yards through two games this season, indicating his lack of sway in the Chargers' passing game.

Limited in practice again
Hurst (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Hurst has now logged back-to-back limited practice sessions due to an ankle injury. He's been targeted a combined five times while playing above 50 percent of offensive snaps in each of the Chargers' first regular-season games, but he ran routes on 76 percent of Justin Herbert's dropbacks Week 2 versus Carolina. If Hurst can practice in at least a limited capacity again Friday, it will bode well for his chances of suiting up Sunday on the road against Pittsburgh.

Limited by ankle injury
Hurst was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
Analysis: Hurst was quiet in Sunday's 26-3 win over Carolina, catching one of two targets for five yards on 52 percent snap share, but he ran routes on 76 percent of Justin Herbert's dropbacks, the second-highest rate on the team (behind wideout Quentin Johnston's 90 percent). Hurst's ability to practice Wednesday -- even in a limited capacity -- suggests he's more likely than not to play this Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Targeted twice in win
Hurst caught one of his two targets for five yards in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Hurst played 38 of the Chargers 69 offensive snaps Sunday, the most of any Los Angeles tight end. However, Will Dissly played just three fewer snaps and saw one more target than Hurst. The 31-year-old tight end will likely face an uphill battle to see consistent usage in the Chargers passing attack, making him difficult to trust for fantasy production. Hurst and the Chargers will square off against the Steelers in Week 3.

Targeted three times in Week 1
Hurst reeled in two of his three targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: It appeared Hurst was the preferred pass-catching option at tight end in Week 1, as the veteran led all Chargers tight ends with three targets and a 61 percent offensive snap share. Though it was an underwhelming performance for Hurst, his usage should provide some optimism about his role in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old will look to take a step forward in the Chargers' offense in a Week 2 matchup against Carolina.

Doesn't bring in lone target
Hurst did not catch his lone reception in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Backup quarterback Easton Stick threw a woefully errant first-half pass to Hurst, who valiantly tried to make a stupendous catch only to be decimated by an incoming defender, popping the ball up in the air for an interception. The veteran did linger on the ground for a bit after the play, but he was able to jog off on his own. Hurst is expected to work in tandem with fellow free-agent addition Will Dissly to operate as a multi-faceted platoon tight end group, with the 6-foot-8 Donald Parham…read more

Signs with Chargers
Hurst agreed to a deal with the Chargers on Friday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Thursday that Hurst visited Los Angeles after being released by Carolina on Wednesday. The Chargers' pass-catching corps will look very different in 2024 after Keenan Allen (heel) was traded to the Bears on Thursday, Mike Williams (knee) was released Wednesday, and tight end Gerald Everett departed to the Bears on Tuesday. Hurst missed the final eight games of 2023 due to a concussion and recorded 18 catches on 32 targets for 184 yards and one touchdown.

Intends to ink with Chargers
Hurst is visiting Los Angeles on Thursday and intends to sign with the team, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hurst, who was recently release by Carolina, appears in line to link up with Justin Herbert and new head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Chargers are in need of prove pass-catchers to join Keenan Allen after the release of Mike Williams (knee), and Hurst is a solid option at tight end with two 50-plus catch seasons under his belt.

Released by Carolina
The Panthers released Hurst on Wednesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Hurst made it through just one season of a three-year, $21.75 million contract and will be cut loose even though most of his 2024 salary is guaranteed. A concussion cost him the final eight games of 2023, with reports of post-traumatic amnesia perhaps bringing retirement into consideration for the 30-year-old tight end. The Panthers plan to release Hurst (concussion) before March 16, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst's release will come just one season into the three-year, $21.75 million contract he inked with Carolina last offseason, due to the veteran tight end reportedly declining to take a pay cut. Across nine regular-season appearances in 2023, Hurst recorded a 18-184-1 receiving line before suffering a season-ending concussion, and post-traumatic amnesia, Week 10. Analysis: Hurst's season ended in Week 10 when he suffered a concussion. He'd been dealing with post-traumatic amnesia in the wake of the brain injury, but it sounds like he's back to full health. Hurst signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal with Carolina last offseason but caught just 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown on 32 targets in his first season with the Panthers. The Panthers placed Hurst (concussion) on injured reserve Friday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: With the Panthers sitting at 1-12 and eliminated from playoff contention, Hurst's season is officially over. Signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, Hurst played in nine games this season before suffering a concussion Week 10. He's since been dealing with post-traumatic amnesia. Expected to be placed on IR
The Panthers are expected to place Hurst (concussion) on injured reserve, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst continues to recover from a concussion sustained Nov. 9 versus the Bears that has held him out of the lineup for Carolina's last four games. A social media post by Hurst's father later revealed that the starting tight end has been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia. If Hurst does indeed land on IR, he will be forced to miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign, leaving Tommy Tremble (hip) and Ian Thomas (ankle) atop the depth chart.

Since then, he was ruled out for this past Sunday's game at New Orleans and now hasn't logged any on-field work this week. Hurst (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at New Orleans.
Analysis: Hurst returned to practice Wednesday and remained a limited participant throughout the week, but he sounds like he could be in danger of missing time even beyond Week 14. A recent social media post by his father revealed that Hurst was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia after taking a hard hit Nov. 9 against the Bears. Practicing without contact
Hurst (concussion) is practicing Wednesday in a red non-contact jersey, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst is progressing through the NFL's five-step concussion protocol but will likely need to take part in at least one full-contact practice Thursday or Friday to have a chance to play Sunday against the Saints. Hurst (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Hurt will miss a third straight game, and with fellow tight end Tommy Tremble (hip) listed as doubtful, it looks like Ian Thomas and Stephen Sullivan will be Carolina's top tight ends. Thomas has plenty of experience as an NFL starter but has never done much in terms of drawing targets or putting up big receiving numbers even when he gets a lot of playing time.

Hurst finished with zero catches on two targets in Sunday's 15-13 win over the Texans.
Analysis: Hurst's goose egg came while he played a season-low 19 offensive snaps. Meanwhile, listed backup Tommy Tremble featured for a season-high 33 plays. Hauls in target
Hurst caught his only target for a five-yard gain in Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Hurst was called for a false start on Carolina's opening drive but hauled in a pass from rookie No. 1 pick Bryce Young two series later. Coming off 52 catches for 414 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games for the Bengals last season, Hurst is slated to start at tight end and offer Young another veteran option to go with fellow offseason additions Adam Thielen and DJ Chark.

Back in action
Hurst, who had been on the mend from offseason sports hernia surgery, participated in Wednesday's minicamp practice, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Now that he's back on the field, Hurst -- who signed a three-year deal with the Panthers in March -- is slated to lead Carolina's tight end corps following a 2022 campaign in which he caught 52 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games with the Bengals. As long as he can stay healthy, Hurst should serve as a key short and intermediate target for rookie quarterback Bryce Young, a context that could result in enough volume for Hurst's fantasy stock to see an uptick in 2023.

Should practice Friday
Coach Frank Reich said he expects Hurst (sports hernia) to participate in individual drills at OTAs on Friday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 29-year-old has been sidelined for the start of Carolina's voluntary offseason workouts after he underwent offseason surgery for a sports hernia, but he's nearing his return to the field. Hurst agreed to a three-year contract with the Panthers in March and should have plenty of time to get back to full health before the start of training camp.

Recovering from sports hernia
Coach Frank Reich said Monday that Hurst (sports hernia) is recovering from a procedure and progressing well, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst is absent from the start of Carolina's voluntary offseason workouts due to his rehab. While Reich didn't offer an exact timeframe for his expected return, it doesn't seem as though Hurst is in danger of missing significant time. The veteran tight end signed a three-year contract with the Panthers this offseason, putting him in prime position to act as one of the top pass catchers for No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and Andy Dalton once Hurst is healthy.

Finds home in Carolina
Hurst agreed Wednesday with the Panthers on a three-year contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hurst proved to be a competent starter while with Cincinnati on a one-year deal in 2022, logging a 52-414-2 receiving line on 68 targets over 13 regular-season appearances. He now gets a chance to lead Carolina's tight end room, which also features complementary options Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble. All signs point to the Panthers grabbing a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft, and the presence of a reliable tight end like Hurst should be helpful in developing whichever…read more

Future uncertain
Hurst had four catches on five targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: Signed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal this offseason, Hurst enjoyed a nice bounce-back campaign in Cincinnati despite missing three games due to a calf injury. After generating a 52-414-2 receiving line on 68 targets over his 13 appearances during the regular season, Hurst likely won't be keen on settling for a one-year deal as he heads back into free agency this spring. Good to go for AFCCG
Hurst (calf) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs after practicing fully Friday.
Analysis: Hurst proclaimed himself healthy earlier in the day Friday, and his confidence was validated by the official injury report. The starting tight end was a limited participant in practice Thursday, but it appears that limited session was precautionary. Hurst has caught nine of 12 targets for 104 yards, one touchdown and one fumble lost through two games this postseason.

Hurst (calf) is on track to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Coach Zac Taylor relayed that Hurst, who was limited Thursday, had a good practice Friday, which sets the stage for the tight end to be available versus Kansas City. The Bengals' final injury report will clarify both Hurst's participation level Friday, as well as whether or not he carries an official injury designation into the weekend.

Added to injury report
Hurst (calf) was limited at practice Thursday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst practiced fully Wednesday, so the tight end's addition to the Bengals' injury report makes his status worth tracking as Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs approaches. He dealt with a calf issue back in December, but it's unclear if his listed limitations Thursday are indicative of a setback in practice or a case of workload management.

Scores in Sunday's win
Hurst caught five of six targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Bills in the AFC divisional round.
Analysis: Hurst capped Cincinnati's second series with a 15-yard touchdown catch after running wide open. The tight end later helped quarterback Joe Burrow move the sticks consistently , nearly leading the team in receiving yards on a snowy day. Next up for Hurst and the Bengals is a meeting against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Nearly scores in postseason win
Hurst caught four of six targets for 45 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 24-17 wild-card round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Hurst had a couple of breaks go against him in this one. He lost a fumble in the second quarter and had a touchdown reversed on replay, coming just short of the goal line on an 18-yard catch. The tight end finished second on the team in receiving yards behind Ja'Marr Chase (84) while tying Tee Higgins for second behind Chase in both targets and catches. Hurst seems to have put his late-season calf injury behind him heading into the Bengals' trip to Buffalo for the AFC divisional round.

Hurst caught four of five targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 27-16 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: After missing the Bengals' previous three games with a calf injury, Hurst reclaimed his role as Cincinnati's top tight end. He played 73 percent of the Bengals' offensive snaps, and his four catches were third-most of any Cincinnati pass catcher. Hurst wrapped up the regular season with 52 receptions for 414 yards and two touchdowns on 68 targets across 13 appearances.

Hurst (calf) was a full practice participant Thursday, Andrew Gillis of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: The full session to open Week 17 prep sets the stage for Hurst to make his return to the lineup after missing the Bengals' last three games with the calf injury. Assuming he experiences no setbacks as the week rolls along, Hurst should reclaim his role as the Bengals' top tight end, sending Mitchell Wilcox back to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart in the process. Likely to return for Week 17
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Tuesday that he's "very optimistic" Hurst (calf) will be available for Monday's game against the Bills, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Even though Taylor said Hurst had a "good week" of practices last Tuesday through Thursday, the tight end proceeded to sit out Saturday's 22-18 win over the Patriots, marking his third consecutive absence. The Bengals may have just wanted to exercise some caution with Hurst by holding him out Week 16, but once he gets the chance to pick up some more practice reps and regain conditioning, the 29-year-old looks like he'll be on pace to play Monday night. Hurst (calf) has been downgraded to out for Saturday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: Hurst was initially deemed questionable for the contest after practicing in a limited capacity this week, but he's now slated to miss his third straight game. Hurst (calf) was a limited practice participant Wednesday and said he's preparing to play Saturday against the Patriots, ESPN.com's Ben Baby reports.
Analysis: Hurst missed the past two games after injuring his calf in a Week 13 win over the Chiefs on Dec. 4. Mitchell Wilcox played 79 and 91 percent of snaps with Hurst out, catching four of five targets for 44 yards and a touchdown across the two games. Listed as LP
Hurst (calf) was present for Tuesday's walkthrough and was listed as a limited participant on the practice report estimate, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It's a sign of progress after back-to-back absences, though far from a guarantee Hurst will be ready for Saturday's game at New England. Mitchell Wilcox has played more than 70 percent of offensive snaps in three straight games for Cincinnati, and while he's been targeted only six times in that stretch, he did score a TD in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. Even so, a healthy Hurst is much more useful to the Cincinnati passing game.

Analysis: The 29-year-old sat out last week's win over the Browns with the calf injury, and he hasn't participated at practice this week. Hurst is trending toward a doubtful or out designation for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, so Mitchell Wilcox is likely to receive another start.

Analysis: Hurst did the majority of his damage in the first half, racking up four receptions for 22 yards. Even in Ja'Marr Chase's (hip) absence, Hurst will likely remain the fourth option for quarterback Joe Burrow. While Hurst has compiled a respectable 21 targets through four games with the Bengals, he has yet to reach 50 yards in a game while working as a secondary option in a passing game led by wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins…read more

Logs full practice
Hurst (groin) was a full participant in practice Tuesday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Hurst was questionable going into Week 3, but he was able to suit up Sunday against the Jets. However, he played only 39 percent of the team's offensive snaps, less than No. 2 tight end Mitchell Wilcox's season-high 56 percent. After being labeled a limited participant in Monday's practice estimate, a move to full participant Tuesday suggests Hurst is on the mend, and he could receive a normal workload Thursday against the Dolphins.

Still dealing with groin injury
Hurst (groin) was limited on Monday's practice estimate.
Analysis: Hurst tended to a groin injury during Week 3 prep and entered this past weekend as questionable. He was able to suit up Sunday at the Jets, playing the second-most offensive snaps (26 of 68) among Bengals tight ends behind Mitchell Wilcox (39) and ahead of Devin Asiasi (24). Hurst ended up hauling in one of two targets for seven yards, but his health concern continues to bother him as the team prepares for Thursday's showdown with the Dolphins.

Active as expected
Hurst (groin) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst was listed as questionable after he practiced in a limited fashion Friday, but he's been cleared to take the field Week 3. The 29-year-old has caught 10 of 15 targets for 70 yards through the first two games of the year and should continue operating as Cincinnati's No. 1 tight end Sunday.

In line to play Sunday
Hurst (groin) is expected to play Sunday at the Jets, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Hurst opened Week 3 prep with a limited session before returning to full participation Thursday. He then logged a capped practice Friday, when Russini reported that Hurst endured a setback with his groin injury. Still, Hurst now is "good to go" Sunday, with his status to be confirmed about 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.

Questionable for Week 3
Hurst (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets after being limited in practice Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Hurst sandwiched Thursday's full practice between a pair of limited sessions. He'll likely be able to suit up barring a setback, but if Hurst can't go Sunday, the Bengals would be down to third- and fourth-stringers Mitchell Wilcox and Devin Asiasi at tight end with Drew Sample (knee) sidelined.

Practices fully
Hurst (groin) returned to a full practice Thursday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst, who was on the field for 57 of 70 snaps on offense and caught five of his seven targets for 24 yards in the Bengals' Week 2 loss to the Cowboys, thus is slated to continue to start at tight end Sunday against the Jets. Through two games, he's logged 15 total targets and recorded back-to-back five-catch efforts, a level of output that gives the 29-year-old modest fantasy utility in PPR formats.

Limited by groin injury
Hurst was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to a groin injury, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In the Bengals' Week 2 loss to the Cowboys, Hurst was on the field for 57 of 70 snaps on offense and caught five of his seven targets for 24 yards. With a limited showing Wednesday, the tight end's status is now worth monitoring as Sunday's game against the Jets approaches. With Drew Sample out with a knee injury, Mitchell Wilcox and Devin Asiasi are next up for reps at tight end behind Hurst.

Five catches Sunday
Hurst caught five of seven targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: The veteran tight end saw healthy target volume for the second straight game, finishing just behind Tee Higgins (10) and Ja'Marr Chase (nine), but Hurst's longest reception went for only eight yards. With the Bengals' offensive line having major issues protecting Joe Burrow, Hurst could continue to be a bail-out option for the QB heading into a Week 3 clash with the Jets.

Catches five passes with new team
Hurst caught five passes for 46 yards on eight targets in the 23-20 overtime loss to the Steelers on Sunday.
Analysis: Hurst was quiet in the game at first, but he stepped up a bit following the exit of wideout Tee Higgins (concussion) and made some plays toward the end. It's at the very least encouraging that Hurst decisively held off 2019 second-round pick Drew Sample, who drew just one target for a two-yard catch in the game. Hurst might need to play a bigger role again if Higgins is unable to gain clearance before Cincinnati plays at Dallas in Week 2.

Impressive start to camp
Hurst has drawn praise from multiple teammates for his performance early in training camp, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Safety Michael Thomas said Hurst's skill set is "as advertised," while slot cornerback Mike Hilton elaborated that "he can really move for his size," which will allow Hurst to be a "mismatch" for defenders. Signed to replace C.J. Uzomah as the team's starting tight end, Hurst could be more involved as a pass catcher than Uzomah was, but he hasn't been able to create a rapport with quarterback Joe Burrow yet, as the quarterback is recovering from an appendectomy.

Hurst is signing a one-year contract with the Bengals, EnterSports Management reports.
Analysis: Hurst will help replace C.J. Uzomah, who signed with the Jets earlier in the week. The Bengals also have Drew Sample, a 2019 second-round pick, while Hurst himself was a 2018 first-rounder. Neither has emerged as a consistent pass-catching threat in the NFL, but Hurst has shown some flashes, including a 30-349-2 receiving line on only 39 targets in 2019 with the Ravens, followed by a 56-571-6 line on 88 targets in 2020 for the Falcons. Despite being targeted once, Hurst finished third on the team in receiving by recording the Falcons' longest offensive play of the game, setting up their first touchdown of the contest. Hurst (illness) won't be available for Sunday's game against the Bills after the Falcons didn't activate him from the reserve/COVID-19 list prior to Saturday's deadline for Week 17 roster moves, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Hurst is one of two key Atlanta pass catchers that will remain on the list for the Week 17 contest, joining receiver Tajae Sharpe (illness). The blocking-oriented Lee Smith will serve as the top backup to starting tight end Kyle Pitts, while Sharpe's absence will likely allow Olamide Zaccheaus and Christian Blake to join Russell Gage in three-receiver sets.

Analysis: Hurst battled an illness in practice leading up to Week 15, but he was able to play 25 of the Falcons' 60 offensive snaps. However, his role in the passing attack remained minimal. Hurst caught his only target for a three-yard touchdown during Sunday's 29-21 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Hurst returned from a three-game absence to catch his second touchdown of the season. Before the ankle injury, Hurst recorded 20 receptions on 25 targets for 158 yards and a touchdown through nine games. Matt Ryan's reliance on checkdowns to running backs and tight ends makes the 2018 first-round pick an interesting option, but the emergence of Kyle Pitts will likely diminish Hurst's fantasy potential.

Atlanta designated Hurst (ankle) for return from injured reserve Monday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Falcons to evaluate Hurst in practice, but Atlanta's decision to waive reserve tight end Parker Hesse on Monday is a strong hint that the Falcons are expecting Hurst to rejoin the 53-man roster in advance of their Week 14 game in Carolina. The Falcons placed Hurst (ankle) on injured reserve Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The Falcons had already ruled Hurst out ahead of Thursday's game against the Buccaneers after the ankle issue rendered him a non-participant in practices Monday through Wednesday. After further evaluation of the tight end, however, Atlanta determined it was best to shut Hurst down for two more games beyond Thursday. The blocking-oriented Lee Smith should step in as the No. 2 tight end behind starter and pass-catching specialist Kyle Pitts.

Won't play Thursday
Hurst (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Thursday's game against New England, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hurst has been more active than the typical No. 2 tight ends with 25 targets through nine games, but that kind of involvement hasn't been nearly enough for him to attain fantasy relevance in most formats. His absence Thursday could free up some extra snaps for blocking specialist Lee Smith and some of the team's depth wide receivers, not to mention the possibility of top tight end Kyle Pitts picking up some extra work.

Hurst (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday.
Analysis: Hurst has taken a backseat to rookie tight end Kyle Pitts this season, seeing just 25 targets through nine games. In this past Sunday's loss at Dallas, Hurst was knocked from the contest with an ankle injury that hasn't allowed him to practice during Week 11 prep. Hurst (ankle) is listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report, Scott Bair of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst is unsurprisingly still hobbled one day after picking up an ankle injury in Sunday's 43-3 loss to the Cowboys. He didn't record any statistics before departing the contest, and he'll now be at risk of missing his first game of the season with the Falcons facing a quick turnaround Thursday night against the Patriots. Analysis: Hurst posted a similar stat line to rookie fourth overall pick Kyle Pitts, despite significantly less volume, as Pitts finished with four catches for 31 yards on eight targets in his NFL debut. Atlanta frequently employed two tight ends in the formation, as both Hurst (43 of 72) and Pitts (49 of 72) were on the field for at least 60 percent of the team's offensive snaps, suggesting there's a role for both guys in the offense moving forward.

The 27-year-old tight end has shattered career highs across the board, with 52 receptions, 543 receiving yards and five TDs heading into a Week 17 finale against the Buccaneers. Hurst was right near his season average of 5.4 targets per game in Week 15, as Julio Jones (hamstring) sat out a second straight contest. Hurst secured one of his three targets for seven yards during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: After serving as a high-floor fantasy tight end for much of the first half of 2020, Hurst has fallen into a slump over the past quarter of the regular season. The South Carolina standout posted 45.7 receiving yards per game with three total touchdowns Weeks 1 through 9; however, he's been held under 10 receiving yards in three of his past four outings. Analysis: Hurst was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday, never truly appearing in danger of sitting out Sunday. The Falcons may have been deliberately withholding Hurst from the session as part of a pre-planned maintenance program, but he'll likely need to get back on the field in some capacity Friday to have a realistic shot at suiting up Sunday against the Saints. Luke Stocker and Jaeden Graham are the Falcons' backup options at tight end, with Graham…read more

Limited in practice
Hurst was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst hasn't yet missed a game this season, though he did pop up on the injury report with an ankle issue in late November. The fact that the tight end is practicing in at least a limited capacity to start the week is a hint that he's trending in the right direction for Sunday's game against the Saints, barring any setbacks.

Records four catches Week 12
Hurst caught four of eight targets for 48 receiving yards during Sunday's 43-6 win against the Raiders.
Analysis: Hurst laid an egg Week 11 with zero receptions on his two targets, but he bounced back with another solid pass-catching performance Sunday. Hurst has posted at least four receptions in five of his six appearances dating back to Week 6, averaging 48.2 receiving yards per game with one total TD during that span. He's enjoyed a healthy workload of 5.8 targets per game in his debut campaign in Atlanta, and he'll now pivot his attention to a Week 13 matchup against division rival New Orleans.

Suiting up Sunday
Hurst (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst logged just one limited practice this week before the Falcons tagged him as questionable for this contest. Still, it was enough to gain clearance to play Sunday, which cannot be said for Julio Jones (hamstring). With both Jones and Todd Gurley (knee) sidelined, their combined 9.7 targets per game will be up for grabs for the likes of Hurst, Calvin Ridley and company to take advantage of the Raiders' 28th-ranked pass defense (273.6 yards per game).

On track for Sunday
Hurst (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old received the questionable tag after finishing the week with a limited practice Friday, and it appears he's continued to progress well halfway through the weekend. Hurst is looking for a rebound performance after posting zero catches on two targets last week against the Saints.

Questionable on final injury report
Hurst (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Las Vegas, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Listed as DNP on the first two practice reports this week, Hurst then returned to the field Friday as a limited participant. We may not know for sure until the Falcons release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. If Hurst doesn't end up playing, Luke Stocker and Jaeden Graham likely would split snaps at tight end, with the former mostly a blocker and the latter a better bet to contribute in the passing game.

No reps Thursday
Hurst (ankle) was listed as a non-participant on Thursday's practice estimate, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Prior to getting blanked on two targets this past Sunday in New Orleans, Hurst notched at least four catches six times in nine games before Atlanta's Week 10 bye. One practice remains before the Falcons potentially give him a designation for a Week 12 contest against the Raiders.

Misses practice with ankle issue
Hurst was absent from Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst missed the first four games of his rookie season in 2018 due to a stress fracture in his foot, but since then, he's reeled off 40 consecutive appearances (including playoffs). Through 10 contests with Atlanta, he's posted a respectable 37-411-3 line on 56 targets, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be able to add to that Sunday versus the Raiders.

Lays Week 11 egg
Hurst did not haul in either of his targets during Sunday's 24-9 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Hurst had pieced together four consecutive performances of four-plus catches and 54 or more receiving yards entering Sunday. Week 11 represented an absolute dud for the third-year man out of South Carolina, his first game in a Falcons uniform without recording a catch. Despite the down week, Hurst has already established career highs in targets (54), receptions (37), receiving yards (411) and touchdowns (three) heading into a Week 12 matchup against Las Vegas.

Second-leading receiver in win
Hurst caught seven of a team-high eight targets, accumulating 62 receiving yards during Sunday's 34-27 win against the Broncos.
Analysis: Calvin Ridley (foot) was unavailable to state his own case, but Hurst commanded more passing-game involvement than at least one Pro Bowl-caliber receiver during Week 9, out-targeting the great Julio Jones by an 8-7 count. It seemed obvious the South Carolina product would see more involvement with the Falcons this season after the team sacrificed a second-round draft choice to acquire him from Baltimore. Solid receiving day in win
Hurst brought in five of seven targets for 54 yards in the Falcons' 25-17 win over the Panthers on Thursday night.
Analysis: The third-year pro continued to churn out solid numbers Thursday, enjoying an expanded role with Calvin Ridley exiting the game in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. Hurst checked in second to Julio Jones in receptions, receiving yards and targets, and he now has at least Thursday's 54 receiving yards in three straight games, his best stretch of play yet during his first season with Atlanta. Heavy involvement against Detroit
Hurst corralled six of seven targets for 68 receiving yards during Sunday's 23-22 loss to the Lions.
Analysis: The third-year tight end continues his breakout 2020 campaign, as Hurst's six receptions establish a new single-game career high. He's been a high-floor fantasy option of late, with four-plus receptions and 50-plus receiving yards in three of his past four games, as well as three total TDs before the midway point of the season. Scores third TD of 2020
Hurst caught all four of his targets for 57 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 40-23 win against the Vikings.
Analysis: The 27-year-old tight end has been inconsistent from week-to-week, but against the Vikings he enjoyed one of his more prolific outings of 2020. During the odd Weeks -- 1, 3 and 5 -- Hurst has averaged 15.7 receiving yards per game, but in his other three outings, he has amassed 60 receiving yards per game with two total TDs. Cleared for Week 6
Hurst (back) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Minnesota.
Analysis: The Falcons listed a slew of players on their injury report this week, but it appears they'll have all their key skill-position players on offense available Sunday, including WR Julio Jones. It's mostly been a disappointing season for Hurst, who has just one game with double-digit PPR points so far.

Tagged as limited yet again
Hurst (back) was listed as limited on Thursday's injury report, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst is averaging 5.6 targets and 50.6 offensive snaps per game, but with 6.1 YPT and two touchdowns through five contests, he's been TD-dependent in his performances in his short stint with the Falcons. He's now dealing with a back issue, which may result in a questionable designation for Sunday's contest at Minnesota.

Limited with back injury
Hurst was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a back issue, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst appears to have picked up the injury in Sunday's loss to the Panthers, during which he only hauled in two of six targets for eight yards. He played a season-high 83 percent of offensive snaps in the contest, so getting the tight end some rest could have factored into Atlanta's decision to limit him in practice. As long as Hurst can upgrade to full participation Thursday or Friday, any concerns about his Week 6 availability will be dispelled.

Barely involved against Panthers
Hurst caught two of his six targets for eight receiving yards during Sunday's 23-16 loss to Carolina.
Analysis: The tight end's involvement has remained steady, with five or more targets thrown his way in every game but one this season. Over the past three weeks, however, the production has just not been there, as Hurst has been held under 10 receiving yards on two occasions during that span. Week 6 offers a matchup against a Vikings defense that surrendered its first TE touchdown of the season on Sunday night, allowing a 19-yard TD pass to Seattle's Will Dissly.

Eclipses 50 yards receiving on MNF
Hurst caught four of his six targets for 51 receiving yards during Monday's 30-16 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: The 2018 first-round draft choice got off to a slow start to his Falcons tenure with three catches and 38 receiving yards in a season-opening loss to Seattle. Between Weeks 2 and 3, Hurst rebounded with touchdown grabs in back-to-back outings, while Monday night he finished as Atlanta's second-leading receiver behind Olamide Zaccheaus. Only catch goes for TD
Hurst registered a one-yard touchdown on his only catch during Sunday's 30-26 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: The 27-year-old has now gone for touchdowns in back-to-back weeks, after totaling just three total TDs across 28 regular-season games in a Ravens uniform. Hurst's fantasy output was salvaged by the score Sunday, as he attracted only three targets against Chicago after tallying 13 combined between Weeks 1 and 2. Hurst will face a Packers defense in Week 4 that has so far held opposing tight ends to 139 total receiving yards with zero TDs.

Enjoys Week 2 breakout
Hurst caught five of eight targets for 72 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 40-39 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Outside of an acrobatic 27-yard catch at the tail end of the first quarter, Hurst's Falcons debut last week against Seattle consisted of little to write home about. Sunday against Dallas, he was heavily involved in the game plan from the jump, as Matt Ryan took a deep shot to Hurst on his second pass attempt of the game before connecting with the tight end on a 42-yard completion two drives later. Slow start to Falcons tenure
Hurst caught three of five targets for 38 yards during Sunday's 38-25 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Despite the many reps the third-year tight end received with quarterback Matt Ryan in private workouts this offseason, it may take some time for Hurst to be fully integrated into the Falcons' air attack. He was tied for fourth on the team in targets Week 1, but there existed a clear separation between him and the top three receivers, as Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage each garnered 12 targets. Expected to get huge snap share
Hurst will be an "every-down tight end" for the Falcons this year, Kelsey Conway of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The former Pirates minor leaguer may not have made a dramatic offensive impact during his two-year tenure with the Ravens, but now he is expected to see opportunities abound with Austin Hooper and his 97 targets from last season shipping out to Cleveland. Traded to Atlanta
The Ravens are trading Hurst and a fourth-round pick to the Falcons in exchange for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Atlanta completed the trade shortly after reports emerged of Austin Hooper signing a contract with Cleveland. Hurst has shown flashes of his potential since Baltimore drafted him in the first round two years ago, but playing time was hard to come by on a team with Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle at tight end. Drawing trade interest
The Patriots and Jaguars are interested in acquiring Hurst from the Ravens, Eugene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union reports reports.
Analysis: The 2018 first-round pick reportedly wants an opportunity to catch more passes, after averaging 28.6 offensive snaps and 2.4 targets per game in 2019. He may be underutilized in Baltimore, but Hurst's well-rounded skill set makes him a valuable backup to both Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle in the Ravens' TE-heavy offense. Shows improvement in 2019
Hurst caught 30 of 39 targets for 349 yards and two touchdowns in 2019.
Analysis: Hurst showed significant improvement in Year 2 after a rookie year that was impacted by a foot injury. He commanded the fifth-highest target share on the team at 9.2 percent and proved to be a viable target downfield with an 8.6 aDOT and a 76.9 percent catch rate. Hurst caught both of his targets for 35 yards during Sunday's 28-10 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Hurst led the Ravens in receiving Sunday in a game in which many of the team's primary starters were rested. He provided his biggest contribution midway through the second quarter, coming back to the ball on a 20-yard pass from Robert Griffin to set up a field goal. The Ravens will have a bye this week before taking on the Texans, Bills or Titans in the divisional round. Comes back to earth
Hurst had one catch for 19 yards on two targets in Thursday's 42-21 win over the Jets.
Analysis: This was a bit of a letdown from Hurst after his breakout showing in the Week 14 win over the Bills. In fairness, Baltimore only attempted 23 passes and only three other players had more targets than Hurst. Still, Thursday served as a reminder that Hurst's big game against the Bills was more of an anomaly than a sign of things to come, especially when top tight end Mark Andrews is healthy and available to handle a full snap load.

Makes long touchdown catch
Hurst caught all three of his targets for 73 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-17 win over the Bills.
Analysis: Hurst led the team in receiving yardage thanks in large part to a 61-yard catch and run for a touchdown at the start of the third quarter. It should also be noted that first-string tight end Mark Andrews left the game with an injury, though head coach John Harbaugh downplayed its severity after the game, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Hurst would see an uptick in value Thursday against the Jets if Andrews is out, but if not he'd be reliant on big plays due to limited usage.

Targeted four times in win
Hurst caught three of his four passes for 21 yards during Sunday's 20-17 win over the 49ers.
Analysis: The four targets were Hurst's most since Week 5, and his shortest catch ended up being the most meaningful. Facing fourth-and-short midway through the second quarter, Hurst caught a quick pass in the flat and spun toward the sideline for a first down. The conversion helped lead to a Ravens field goal. Catchless in big win
Hurst was unable to reel in his lone target during Monday's 45-6 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Monday marked Hurst's first catchless game of the season. The 2018 first-round pick has seldom accounted for many yards this season, having not topped 40 since Week 1, but he's been good for a catch or two per game with a red-zone target sprinkled in. Even if Hurst had maintained his reception streak, that type of production was never enough to make him a viable play in fantasy, especially against a team like the 49ers, who the Ravens face Sunday.

Musters up 12 yards
Hurst caught both targets for 16 scoreless yards in Sunday's 41-7 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Despite Mark Andrews getting a breather by logging a 35-percent snap share in the blowout win, Hurst's usage stayed low, as he played 30 of a possible 72 offensive snaps. Even in dynasty formats, it's tough to hold onto Hurst, as he'll be stuck behind Andrews and Nick Boyle for the foreseeable future.

Hauls in two passes
Hurst caught both targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 49-13 win over the Bengals.

Hurst caught both targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 37-20 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: It has been a disappointing campaign for the 2018 first-round pick, as he's the No. 3 tight end behind Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle. Hurst hasn't exceeded four catches or 39 yards in a game this year, and his 7.8 YPT makes him a tough fantasy play.
