Cut loose Monday
The Chargers cut Kelly on Monday.
Analysis: Kelly began the campaign on Baltimore's practice squad and got into two games with the team, though he didn't log any offensive snaps. After being cut by the Ravens on Oct. 1, Kelly signed to the Chargers' practice squad in early December, but he's now been let go without playing in a game for the NFL squad. Kelly will likely now look to provide running back depth for another organization, though he hasn't logged an NFL snap on offense since 2021.

Gets chance with Chargers
The Chargers signed Kelly to their practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Kelly played in two games with Baltimore to begin the season, logging snaps only on special teams. He hasn't had an NFL snap since he rushed twice for 13 yards in 2021 with Cleveland. Kelly will serve as organizational depth at running back for Los Angeles with J.K. Dobbins (knee) on injured reserve, but the former may need one of Gus Edwards, Kimani Vidal or Hassan Haskins to miss time in order to be elevated for game day.

Let go from team
Kelly was cut from the Ravens' practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Kelly was elevated from Baltimore's practice squad to their active roster twice this season, handling kick return duties for the team. However, Deonte Harty has taken over that role since, leaving Kelly without much of a role. The Tennessee product will now have to search out a new opportunity.

Goes back to practice squad
Kelly reverted to Baltimore's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Kelly played five snaps during Sunday's 26-23 loss versus the Raiders, all on special teams. The Ravens will be able to elevate him from the practice squad just once more this season before he'd have to be added to the 53-man roster in order to suit up.

Elevated for Week 2
The Ravens elevated Kelly from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Kelly played six special teams snaps in Week 1 against the Chiefs. The 2018 sixth-round pick is expected to reprise his role as the No. 3 running back behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill for Sunday's game against Las Vegas.

Promoted for Thursday night
The Ravens activated Kelly from the practice squad for Thursday night's Week 1 season opener against the Chiefs.
Analysis: With Rasheen Ali (neck) out versus Kansas City, the veteran Kelly gets the call as the Ravens' RB3 behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill. Kelly rushed 13 times for 52 yards during the preseason. He's unlikely to play more than a handful of snaps Thursday night.

Inks practice squad deal
Kelly signed with the Ravens' practice squad Wednesday, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Kelly spent parts of the last five seasons with the Browns and Rams but found his way to Baltimore on Aug. 13. Despite not making the team's 53-man roster, he'll get a chance to stay around with the Ravens' practice squad.

Released by Baltimore
Kelly was released by the Ravens on Tuesday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The running back signed with the Ravens during training camp after spending most of 2023 on the Browns' practice squad. The 2018 sixth-round pick has not carried the ball in a regular-season game since 2021.

Picked up by Baltimore
The Ravens signed Kelly to a contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Kelly spent most of last season on Cleveland's practice squad but didn't suit up for a regular-season game with the team. The 2018 sixth-round pick now has a chance to compete for a deep depth role in Baltimore, with his best-case scenario likely to be a spot on the practice squad again.

Jettisoned by Cleveland
The Browns released Kelly on Monday, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: Kelly spent most of the 2023 season on the Browns' practice squad and did not play in the regular season. His last NFL action was in 2022, when he played 14 snaps on special teams in Week 17 against the Commanders. The 2018 sixth-round pick will look to join a team in need of a running back with special-teams experience.

Brought up from practice squad
Kelly was elevated from Cleveland's practice squad Friday ahead of Saturday's wild-card round game against the Texans.
Analysis: Kelly will serve as backfield depth behind Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt in the event that Pierre Strong (back) is unable to play, though Kelly could still be left inactive on game day if Strong is able to suit up. Kelly didn't appear in a game during the regular season.

Brought back by Cleveland
The Browns signed Kelly to their practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: The Tennessee product has spent the majority of the past three seasons with Cleveland, and the team has decided to bring him back after parting ways with him just one week ago. Kelly's most recent in-game action came in 2022, when he appeared in one game for the Browns and played 14 special teams snaps. In a corresponding move, Cleveland cut Kenyan Drake from its practice squad.

Let go by Cleveland
The Browns cut Kelly from their practice squad Tuesday.

Cut by Cleveland
The Browns cut Kelly on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Cleveland opted to keep Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong as backups to Nick Chubb, cutting Kelly and Demetric Felton on Tuesday. If Kelly clears waivers, the Browns would presumably like to bring him back on a practice-squad deal.

Sees goal line work
Kelly carried the ball six times for 20 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 33-32 preseason loss to the Chiefs. He added three receptions for 33 yards.
Analysis: The Browns ran a pass-heavy gameplan in an effort to get Deshaun Watson reps, but Kelly was ultimately the third back to take the field. His first three carries came inside the red zone, where he spelled Demetric Felton. It's possible that Kelly will see the field early on in the regular season if Jerome Ford (hamstring) isn't ready to return, though Felton's skillset is a better complement to Nick Chubb, which could give him the upper hand over Kelly.

Commits critical fumble Thursday
Kelly rushed eight times for 20 yards and brought in one of two targets for three yards in the Browns' 18-18 preseason tie with the Eagles on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Kelly was stymied on the ground as his final line indicates, and his fumble at the Eagles' three-yard line that short-circuited the Browns' opening drive was naturally a critical mistake. The 2018 sixth-round pick of the Rams has now had poor outings in back-to-back preseason contests, and Demetric Felton appears to be clearly ahead of him in the battle for the No. 3 running back role heading into Cleveland's preseason finale against the Chiefs on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Rough night against Washington
Kelly carried the ball six times for six yards and caught his only target for three yards in Friday's preseason loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: After a good showing in the Hall of Fame Game last week, Kelly crashed back down to Earth in this one. Not only was he thoroughly outproduced on the ground by Demetric Felton, Kelly flopped in his biggest moment -- he got a fourth-down carry from the one-yard line on Cleveland's first drive, but rather than punching the ball into the end zone, he got tackled for a four-yard loss by Montez Sweat. If Cleveland goes with only three backs on its Week 1 roster, Kelly is by no means assured of a spot.

Stakes claim for roster
Kelly had 10 carries for 42 yards and caught four of five targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason victory over the Jets.
Analysis: The top two in Cleveland's running back room did not play in the Hall of Fame Game, leaving Kelly and Demetric Felton to gobble up most of the work in the backfield. Each back figured as a runner and receiver and scored a touchdown. With Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford locked as the top two backs, there should be room for a third back on the active roster, and these two are the leading candidates.

Clings with Cleveland
Kelly signed a reserve/future contract with the Browns on Monday.
Analysis: Kelly spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign on Cleveland's practice squad before being elevated prior to the Week 17 win against Washington. The running back wound up exclusively playing on special teams during this contest, and he's now totaled five carries over the past four seasons. Kelly will look to carve out a larger role with the Browns this offseason.

Returns to practice squad
Kelly reverted to the Browns' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Kelly was bumped up from the practice squad for the first time ahead of Sunday's win over the Commanders. The 26-year-old running back wound up logging all 14 of his snaps on special teams, and he has recorded five rushing attempts since the 2019 season. Kelly should stand to see similar usage if he's promoted to the active roster ahead of this coming Sunday's regular-season finale against Pittsburgh.

Up on active roster
Kelly was elevated from the Browns' practice squad Saturday.

Kelly was signed to the Browns' practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Kelly could be first in line to be elevated if injuries affect Cleveland's backfield, as he logged four appearances with the Browns last season and saw extensive work in the preseason. Cut by Cleveland
The Browns waived Kelly on Tuesday, Anthony Poisal of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Kelly appeared in four games with the Browns last season, and he handled a notable workload in the preseason, but he never had a clear path to earning a spot in Cleveland's exceptionally deep running back room. However, the team could make it a priority to stash Kelly on the practice squad if no other team offers him an active roster spot.

Leading rusher Sunday
Kelly had 14 carries for 66 yards, including a six-yard touchdown run, in Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Kelly has received a lot of work through the first two preseason games, as the Browns opted to hold out Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Most of the ground game has been handled by Kelly and rookie fifth-rounder Jerome Ford, with Kelly toting the ball a team-high 24 times. Kelly's 86 yards are second to Ford's 88. Analysis: Kelly made four appearances for the Browns this season and played almost exclusively on special teams. However, he did see three offensive snaps in Week 7 and totaled two rushes for 13 yards during the game. With Kareem Hunt, Nick Chubb and Demetric Felton all under contract for 2022, it's likely Kelly will garner a similar workload for Cleveland next year.

Reverts to practice squad
Kelly reverted to the Browns' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Serves on special teams
Kelly played six snaps on special teams in Monday's 16-14 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: Kelly was elevated to the active roster and served as the fourth back behind Nick Chubb, D'Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton. It was the fourth time that Kelly's been active for a game in 2021; he has two carries for 13 yards while playing three snaps on offense.

Game-day elevation for Week 15
Kelly was elevated from Cleveland's practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement ahead of Monday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: Kelly will provide backfield depth for the Browns, but he's unlikely to get into the game on offense unless Nick Chubb and D'Ernest Johnson both get hurt. Even then, the Browns could opt to use return man Demetric Felton at running back over Kelly.

Waived by Browns
The Browns have waived Kelly, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Clears COVID-19 protocols
Kelly (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Kelly has cleared the league's COVID-19 protocols, but fellow running backs Nick Chubb and Demetric Felton both remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list. With Kareem Hunt (calf) expected to remain on IR, Kelly would slide into the backup role behind D'Ernest Johnson for Sunday's highly favorable matchup against the Lions if neither Chubb nor Felton are activated by then.

Analysis: Coach Kevin Stefanski noted all of Nick Chubb (illness), Demetric Felton (illness) and Kelly will be unavailable Week 10 due to COVID-19 protocols. With Kareem Hunt (calf) still on IR, the Browns backfield will be headed by D'Ernest Johnson, with practice-squad members Brian Hill and Dexter Williams likely to be elevated for Sunday's contest.

Tests positive for COVID-19
Kelly did test positive for COVID before being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Kelly joins Nick Chubb and Demetric Felton as Browns running backs who have tested positive for COVID, leaving D'Ernest Johnson as the only healthy running back on the current roster. Kelly's absence wouldn't normally be much of an issue, as he's only played three offensive snaps all season, but with the void the Browns now have in the backfield every body counts.

Makes season debut
Kelly had two carries for 13 yards in Thursday's 17-14 win over the Broncos.
Analysis: Kelly was added to the active roster off the Browns' practice squad, as both Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (calf) were sidelined. The 25-year-old was on the field for three snaps and served as the third back behind D'Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton. Chubb, who has missed two games but isn't on injured reserve, could return to action Week 8 against the Steelers. If he does, Kelly is unlikely to remain on the active roster for that contest.

Kelly was signed to Cleveland's practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Kelly ran with the Browns in 2021 preseason and saw a lot of action in preseason games, as Cleveland held Nick Chubb out for all three games and Kareem Hunt for two.
