Analysis: With a Week 1 return expected, Bosa handled team reps in training camp last week and finally saw his first full practice Wednesday. The star defensive end remains on track for a start in the season opener Sunday against Detroit.

Ready for team reps

Analysis: The 49ers have spent training camp easing Bosa back into action, but he's now progressed enough in his recovery from a torn left ACL to resume handling reps in team drills. The team has consistently stated that Bosa is on track for the regular-season opener against Detroit on Sept. 12, and this news represents another step in the right direction.

Analysis: Bosa is practicing alongside Dee Ford and Javon Kinlaw, who are both also working back from injury. The star defensive end is expected to be ready for Week 1, but the 49ers will continue to ease him along in recovery from his ACL tear. Until the team is sure that Bosa's chances of injury aggravation have been minimized, he'll likely remain limited, but it's certainly encouraging to see him taking part in padded practices.

Week 1 return expected

Bosa (knee) said he's on track to play in Week 1 against the Lions, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Bosa tore his ACL in Week 2 of last season. Coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier in the offseason that he expected Bosa back for training camp, and Bosa's own proclamation that he'll be ready for Week 1 is further evidence that the defensive end's recovery is progressing as planned. Bosa's return would be a huge boon for San Francisco's defense, considering he notched nine sacks as a rookie in 2019.

On track for camp

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that he expects Bosa (knee) to be ready for training camp, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Working his way back from an ACL tear, Bosa is still rehabbing in South Florida while most of his teammates are at voluntary OTAs. Shanahan said the 49ers encouraged the 23-year-old to stay in Florida and stick with his routine, targeting training camp (late July or August) as a realistic goal for a return to practice. Bosa had nine sacks in 16 regular-season games and four more in three playoff contests during his 2019 rookie campaign before suffering the ACL tear in Week 2 of 2020.

Bosa is slated to have surgery on his torn left ACL and associated cartilage damage this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Analysis: Bosa was one of a number of 49ers to suffer injuries of varying severity last Sunday against the Jets, but only his and Solomon Thomas' (torn ACL) were season-enders. Once the procedure is complete, the 49ers likely will have a better idea of his recovery timeline, but they are hopeful Bosa will be healthy by Week 1 of the 2021 campaign. Bosa won AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors Saturday.

Analysis: He was also given the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award, but Bosa would undoubtedly trade both awards for a win in the upcoming Super Bowl on Sunday. The second overall selection in the 2019 draft has played a key role in his team's run to the Super Bowl, recording three sacks in San Francisco's pair of playoff wins after accruing nine during the regular season. Teams picking at the top of the draft aced their selections in 2019, as first overall pick Kyler Murray won Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Shows up big vs. Vikings

Bosa recorded six solo tackles, two sacks and one defended pass during Saturday's win over the Vikings.

Analysis: Coming off a stellar regular-season campaign, the rookie second-overall pick logged a dominant performance during Saturday's NFC divisional-round win. Bosa withstood an apparent abdominal injury that kept him on the ground for an extended period in the fourth quarter, but he managed to remain on the field. The likely Defensive Rookie of the Year will look to keep up his momentum in next Saturday's NFC Championship Game against either the Packers or Seahawks.

Stellar rookie campaign

Bosa finished the regular season with 47 tackles (32 solo), nine sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in 16 games.

Analysis: The second-overall pick put the league on notice when he racked up a whopping seven sacks over his first seven contests. Bosa did slow down in that department in the second half of the season, but the loss of fellow edge rusher Dee Ford was a significant factor as opposing defenses began to double Bosa often. Shut out in win

Bosa recorded no tackles, sacks or pass breakups in Saturday's 34-31 win over the Rams.

Analysis: Bosa did hit the quarterback twice, so he wasn't totally without an effect on the game. He'll try to record his 10th sack of the season Week 17 against Seattle.

Notches sack, pass breakup in loss

Bosa recorded three tackles (one solo), a sack and a pass breakup in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.

Analysis: It was Bosa's first sack in three games but his second consecutive tilt with a pass breakup. He's up to nine sacks on the year.

Beat up by Saints

Bosa only logged two solo tackles in 68 defensive snaps in Sunday's 48-46 win over New Orleans.

Analysis: Bosa and the rest of the stout defensive line were held in check for much of the game, and he moved his season tackle total to 38 (26 solo). He may be hitting a little rut late in the season, as Bosa has secured just one sack in his six contests.
