Won't return this season
Sweeney (foot) will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to myocarditis, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old has been on the PUP list all season with a foot injury and spent a couple weeks on the reserve/COVID-19 list in late October/early November, and he's apparently dealing with heart inflammation stemming from the virus. Sweeney will take it easy to avoid aggravating the issue and could be back next season if all goes well over the next few months.

Back with team
The Bills (foot) activated Sweeney off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Sweeney has yet to suit up in game action this season, as he's battled a foot injury and placement on the COVID-19 list. The team is pretty set with Dawson Knox and Tyler Kroft as the top two receiving options at tight end, so if Sweeney does end up playing this season he'll likely only assume a blocking role for the offense.

Moved to COVID-19 list
Sweeney (foot) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Sweeney was already on the PUP list due to a foot injury -- he hasn't seen action all season -- but because he's been deemed to have been in close contact with fellow tight end Dawson Knox -- who tested positive for COVID-19 -- Sweeney has been placed on the list due to league protocol, even though he hasn't necessarily tested positive for the virus himself.

Out to begin 2020 season
Sweeney (foot) was placed on the reserve PUP list on Saturday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The second-year tight end will miss several games and won't be able to start practicing with his teammates until the start of Week 7 at the earliest. Dawson Knox, Tyler Kroft and blocking specialist Lee Smith with make up the tight end corps for Week 1 and beyond.

Foot injury lingers
Sweeney (foot) remains on the PUP list and isn't practicing Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Sweeney currently sits fourth on the depth chart at tight end and is no certainty to secure a roster spot, even though he saw action in six games as a seventh-round rookie last season.

Heads to PUP
Sweeney has been placed on the Active/PUP list due to a foot injury, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The second-year tight end has some work to do to gain some form of meaningful role in the Buffalo offense now that Tyler Kroft is healthy again and set to compete with Dawson Knox for the top TE spot. We'll see if Sweeney can get back at it in relatively short order so he can stake his claim to the No. 3 role.

Sees action as rookie
Sweeney, a seventh-round pick out of Boston College, appeared in six games for the Bills in 2019 and caught eight balls on 13 targets for 114 yards and no scores.
Analysis: Sweeney saw most of his action when the team's other tight ends were hurt, but he also served as a healthy inactive more often than not. He's currently fourth in the pecking order as the Bills gear up for 2020, while the team has already kicked the tires on Greg Olsen. However, teammate Tyler Kroft could get released if the Bills try to free up some cash space. Expect Sweeney to have to earn a roster spot once training camp rolls around.
