Knocks down another pass attempt
Tillery started at left defensive end and had one pass defensed and one QB hit without a tackle in Sunday's win over Houston.
Analysis: Tillery played on 30 of the defense's 67 snaps. He's knocked down two passes at the line of scrimmage in three games. Tillery is mostly a run stuffer who has just 12.5 sacks in six prior seasons.

Ready for Week 1
Tillery (lower leg) was absent from Minnesota's injury report Wednesday ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Giants.
Analysis: Tillery was carted off the field with a lower leg injury during a practice in early August, but it appears he's recovered in time for the Vikings' regular-season opener Sunday. The veteran defensive lineman signed a one-year contract worth up to $3.75 million with Minnesota this past offseason, and he figures to line up as one of the team's top defensive ends in 2024.

Carted off field Saturday
Tillery left Saturday's practice session on a cart due to a lower right leg injury, Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Tillery signed a one-year deal with the Vikings in March after spending the last two years with the Raiders, and the 2019 first-round pick is slated to start at defensive end opposite Jonathan Bullard. If Tillery were to miss extended time, Jonah Williams and Jihad Ward are candidates to see more snaps with the first-team defense during training camp and preseason games.

Finds new home
Tillery agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $3.75 million with the Vikings on Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Tillery was a cap casualty of the Raiders on Wednesday, and the 2019 first-round selection will now suit up with Minnesota in 2024. In 17 contests last season, the Notre Dame product tallied 31 combined tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and also recovered a fumble. He should bolster the team's depth at nose tackle for the upcoming season.

Set to be let go by Las Vegas
Tillery is set to be released by the Raiders on Wednesday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Analysis: Tillery signed a two-year, $6.8 million contract with the Raiders in March of 2023, appearing in all 17 of the team's games in 2023, recording 31 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, while also recovering a fumble. His release will create $3.8 million in cap space for Las Vegas, which will enter the new league year Wednesday with up to $50 million in overall cap space.

Headed back to Las Vegas
Tillery re-signed with the Raiders on Friday.
Analysis: Tillery will return to the Raiders after they claimed him off waivers back in November. While the 2019 first-round pick did not have a huge role with the Raiders last season, he still served as a solid rotational and special-teams player and should be expected to have a similar role heading into next season.

Headed to Vegas
Tillery (back) was claimed off waivers from the Chargers by the Raiders on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Tillery had his best season of his four-year career last year, but he's now followed it up with arguably his least productive season. The 26-year-old has played in seven contests during his 2022 campaign, recording eight tackles and a sack on 178 defensive snaps, putting him on pace for his worst season in the league statistically. Tillery is currently dealing with a back injury, which theoretically could have been impacting his performance this year with the Chargers. Once healthy, he should…read more

Let go by Bolts
The Chargers waived Tillery (back) on Thursday.
Analysis: Tillery was dropped by the Chargers after he missed last Sunday's win over the Falcons with a back injury, and he will now pass through waivers before becoming a free agent, should he go unclaimed. The 2019 first-round pick collected a career-high 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks over 16 games last season, but he recorded just eight tackles, one sack and one forced fumble through the first seven games of 2022. Tillery was also on pace to play his fewest number of defensive snaps since the 2019…read more

Won't play Sunday
Tillery (back) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
Analysis: After missing the first two practices of Week 9 prep, Tillery returned in a limited fashion Friday but will still miss Sunday's contest due to a back injury. In his absence, Morgan Fox, Otito Ogbonnia and Jeremiah Attaochu are candidates for increased roles.

Fifth-year option declined
The Chargers declined the fifth-year option on Tillery's rookie contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Tillery has steadily progressed in each of his first three seasons in the NFL and registered career highs in tackles (51) and sacks (4.5) last season. While the team declined the defensive tackle's option, he remains in the Chargers' plans moving forward and could re-sign with the team once he reaches free agency.

Returns from COVID list
Tillery was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Tillery missed Week 11 as a result of testing positive for the illness. He will return to his regular starting role on the Chargers defensive line.

Tests positive for COVID-19
Tillery landed on the reserve-COVID-19 list because he tested positive for the virus, Shelley Smith of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Tillery's ability to play Sunday depends on his vaccination status. If unvaccinated, he won't be able to suit up in Week 11, but if he is vaccinated, he'll need to be asymptomatic and turn in two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be in uniform against the Steelers.

Placed on reserve/COVID-19 list
TIllery was put on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Tillery must now pass through the league protocol before his reinstatement, putting his availability for Week 11 in doubt. Christian Covington would likely absorb the extra snaps if the Notre Dame product is forced to sit out.

Career-high marks
Tillery compiled seven tackles (four solo) and a half sack in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Sunday easily marked a career outing for the 2019 first-round pick. While Tillery didn't do much to actually stuff the run, the defensive end was all around the ball, nearly leading the team in tackles while also picking up a half sack. Largely a rotational pass rusher throughout his first two seasons in the league, Tillery has been pushed into a bigger workload with Melvin Ingram now in Pittsburgh.

Shifting to defensive end Week 12
Tillery is in line to start at defensive end Sunday against the Bills, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Chargers have been decimated by injuries at the defensive end spot. Melvin Ingram (knee) landed on injured reserve Friday, while Uchenna Nwosu sits out Week 12 with a shoulder issue. Tillery typically lines up along the defensive interior, but he could be bumped to the edge to start opposite Joey Bosa during a visit to Orchard Park. Emeke Egbule, who has zero career starts over his two pro campaigns, is the only available right defensive end on the team's roster.

Flashes first-round talent
Tillery posted 17 tackles (nine solo) and two sacks in his rookie campaign.
Analysis: Tillery played just 360 defensive snaps due in large part to the Chargers' depth along the defensive line, but the 2019 first-round pick at times exploded off the tape, working in tandem with feared defensive ends Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa to create havoc in the middle of the pocket. Tillery should continue to see more time at defensive tackle in the coming seasons, particularly with a number of interior defensive linemen potentially not returning following a disappointing 2019 season.
