He'll likely get a chance to bring his conversion rates back up when Buffalo hosts the Patriots' middling defense in Week 16, assuming the Buffalo weather holds up.

    Analysis: Bass became only the second kicker in NFL history -- Justin Tucker being the other -- to make three 50-plus yarders in the first half of a game. The rookie has a big leg, and he has some decent job security after connecting on 22 of 28 field-goal attempts (78.6 percent) and 31 of 32 extra-point tries so far this season. Bass is also adept at getting touchbacks on kickoffs, as he's tied for third in the league with 40 of them so far.

    Analysis: Bass missed five field goals over eight games leading up to this outing, but Sunday's misfire shouldn't be held against the rookie. Bass has made 73 percent of field-goal tries this year, and he now has 74 points through nine games, tied with four other kickers for fifth in the league.

    Analysis: The misses were not pretty and could have led to an embarrassing defeat for the Bills in what was a surprisingly close game most of the afternoon. However, the rookie sixth-rounder pushed through and ended up making kicks of 53, 48, 46, 37, 29 and 40 yards. In the process, Bass tied the NFL record for field-goal attempts in a game and became the first rookie to have eight attempts in an outing.

  • One ugly miss

    Bass was 1-for-2 on field-goal tries and made both of his extra-point attempts in Monday's loss to the Chiefs.

    Analysis: The miss was on a 52-yarder to end the half and was wide enough right to say the golfer's equivalent would be pushing a drive all the way over to the other fairway. After six weeks, Bass sits in a tie for 23rd in fantasy kicker scoring with 36 points. Part of that is due to the team's 73.9 red-zone touchdown percentage.

While he looked a little shaky, posting nine points -- and having a legit excuse for one of his misses -- likely keeps Bass in the safe zone for now.

    Special teams coordinator Heath Farwell confirmed Friday that Stephen Hauschka will enter the summer as the team's top kicker, but Bass will have a chance to unseat the veteran in an open competition, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. "Then you have a young player like Tyler who is loaded with talent," Farwell said. "He has a lot of ton of upside, but he's got to prove it in the preseason and training camp."

    Analysis: Hauschka has been Buffalo's kicker for three seasons, and while he's lost some accuracy and leg strength from his Seattle days, he's done fairly well in a tough climate, especially on pressure kicks.     Analysis: Bass and his booming leg were taken out of Georgia State in the sixth round of the recent draft. It'll be tough for him to unseat incumbent Stephen Hauschka with what could be a limited tryout this summer, though the Bills did select him for a reason.
