Cut by Bucs
The Buccaneers waived Blankenship on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Blankenship was competing with Chase McLaughlin for the Buccaneers' kicking gig and ultimately came up short in the job battle. The 26-year-old most recently suited up for the Cardinals, with whom he appeared in two games during the 2022 campaign after being cut by the Colts following Week 1.

Drills only kick Friday
Blakenship converted his lone field-goal attempt -- from 35 yards out -- in the Buccaneers' 27-17 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday. He did not have any extra-point tries.
Analysis: Blankenship was true on his one boot and his competition for the placekicker job, Chase McLaughlin, handled both of Tampa Bay's point-after tries successfully. Consequently, the battle between the two kickers seemingly remains deadlocked heading into another week of training camp practices ahead of next Saturday's road preseason matchup against the Jets.

Pushing McLaughlin in job battle
Blankenship and his competitor for the Buccaneers' placekicking job, Chase McLaughlin, have been running very close in their training camp competition heading into Friday's preseason opener against the Steelers, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Blankenship has 56 career regular-season field-goal attempts on his resume and has been displaying impressive leg strength during training camp, so he's believed to be just as viable a candidate as the player who actually replaced him in Indianapolis a year ago, McLaughlin. The job battle between the two young veterans could well extend all the way through the third preseason game, and Smith reports that Wednesday's dead-even kicking derby in practice -- which saw both players go a perfect…read more

Waived with injury settlement
Arizona waived Blankenship (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Wednesday.
Analysis: Blankenship filled in for Matt Prater during Week 7 and made both of his field-goal attempts, including a 50-yarder, but he missed one of his three extra-point tries. Prater returned in Week 8 but wasn't cleared for kickoff duties, so Blankenship handled that role. However, Blankenship appears to have suffered an injury of his own during the contest and was waived with an injury settlement Wednesday. Once healthy, Blankenship will be allowed to sign with a new team.

Contained to kickoffs in Week 8
Blankenship recorded six kickoffs, all touchbacks, during Sunday's 34-26 loss in Minnesota.
Analysis: Blankenship filled in for the Cardinals' regular kicker Matt Prater in the final of his three absences due to a right hip injury. While Prater was cleared to log field-goal attempts and point-after tries Sunday -- he made two FGAs and PATs apiece in his return -- Blankenship, who was inked to the active roster last Wednesday, handled kickoff duties Week 8. Such a breakdown of placekicking tasks may be the team's reality until Prater is back to full health.

Active, along with Prater
Both Blankenship and Matt Prater (right hip) are active Sunday in Minnesota, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: With Prater back for the first time since Week 4, he's a safe bet to log field-goal attempts and point-after tries, at the very least. But Arizona signed Blankenship to the active roster this week to serve as an emergency option at placekicker for the Cardinals, and coach Kliff Kingsbury said he'd handle kickoffs while Prater gets the scoring opportunities. As a result, Blankenship isn't a certainty to contribute on the fantasy front.

Moves to Cardinals' active roster
Arizona signed Blankenship to the active roster from the practice squad Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Blankenship made two field goals in his debut for the Cardinals last week, with one coming from 50 yards out, and he went 2-for-3 on extra-point tries. His move to the active roster could signal that Matt Prater (hip) is trending in the wrong direction for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Reverts to practice squad
Blankenship reverted back to Arizona's practice squad Friday.
Analysis: Blankenship was elevated to the active roster prior to Thursday's win over the Saints, and he connected on both his field-goal attempts while going 2-for-3 on extra-point tries. However, his status with the Cardinals is dependent on the status of Matt Prater, who has missed three straight games due to a hip injury. Prater could return to the field as soon as next Sunday versus Minnesota.

Subbing for Prater on Thursday
Blankenship will serve as the Cardinals' placekicker Thursday versus the Saints with Matt Prater (hip) sidelined, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With Prater out for a third consecutive contest, Blankenship will be the second kicker to stand in for him after Matt Ammendola handled those duties Weeks 5-6. In parts of three seasons with the Colts, Blankenship made 45 of 53 field-goal attempts and 52 of 55 point-after tries, which amounted to 8.5 points per game in his 22 appearances.

Joins 53-man roster Thursday
The Cardinals elevated Blankenship from their practice squad Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Blankenship was signed to Arizona's practice squad Tuesday, and he could serve as the team's top kicker for Thursday night's matchup against the Saints if Matt Prater (hip) -- who's currently questionable to play -- is eventually ruled inactive for a third consecutive contest. The 25-year-old was let go by Indianapolis after going 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra-point tries in Week 1.

Signs to practice squad
Blankenship signed with the Cardinals' practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Blankenship had a rocky season debut with the Colts in Week 1, missing a potential game-winning kick in overtime, while also sending two kickoffs out of bounds for penalties, which lead to him getting cut. However, with Matt Ammendola being let go Monday by the Cardinals and Matt Prater (hip) still questionable for Thursday's content with the Saints, Blankenship could get a chance at redemption.

Cut after missing critical kick
The Colts waived Blankenship on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: In addition to drawing penalties after sending two kickoffs out of bounds in Week 1, Blankenship misfired on a 42-yard field-goal attempt in overtime against the Texans that cost the Colts a win and forced the team to settle for a 20-20 tie. The poor showing will now cost him his job, but the 25-year-old was already on thin ice entering the season. The Colts' decision to move on from Blankenship comes after he followed up a strong 2020 rookie season by converting only 11 of 14 field-goal tries…read more

Misses potential game-winning kick
Blankenship made two of three field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 20-20 tie with the Texans. However, he missed a potential game-winning kick in overtime and had two of his kickoffs go out of bounds for penalties.
Analysis: Blankenship opened the scoring with a 45-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter, but he missed a 42-yard attempt wide right in overtime, which would've won the game for the Colts. After a strong rookie season, Blankenship appeared in just five games last year due to injuries, and despite missing the would-be game-winning kick, he'll look to reclaim the consistency that made him a reliable kicker in 2020. He may lose the kickoff role, as he was pressed…read more

Beats out Verity for starting job
Blankenship has won the Colts' kicking battle with the team releasing Jake Verity on Thursday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Blankenship entered as the favorite and reportedly outkicked Verity at training camp, even showing improved ability on tries from 50-plus yards. While he has one of the weaker legs among NFL starting placekickers, Blankenship could be useful in fantasy leagues this year, playing for a dome team that many project to win a weak AFC South.

Operating as starter at OTAs
Colts head coach Frank Reich said last week that Blankenship (hip) is the favorite to win the starting kicker job over Jake Verity, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Blankenship operated as the Colts' placekicker to start 2021, but he played just five games before being placed on IR with a hip injury, which ultimately ended his season. Michael Badgley replaced Blankenship last year, but he remains a free agent as Indianapolis signed Verity to provide competition to Blankenship during the offseason. Now healthy, Blankenship is poised to reclaim his starting gig. Across 21 career games, he's converted 43 of 51 field-goal attempts, with six of his eight misses…read more

In offseason battle
Blankenship (hip) is expected to compete with Jake Verity for the Colts' kicking job during OTAs and training camp, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Blankenship has held Indianapolis' starting kicker duties over the past two seasons when healthy, but he played just five games in 2021 before being placed on injured reserve with a hip injury in November. He ultimately converted 11 of 14 field-goals attempts and missed one extra-point attempt in 2021. Blankenship was relatively consistent in his rookie season with the Colts, and if healthy, he'll be the favorite to retain the kicking job.

Remains on IR indefinitely
Colts head coach Frank Reich said Wednesday that Blankenship (hip) will remain on injured reserve for the foreseeable future with Michael Badgley having secured the team's kicking job, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After Blankenship landed on IR on Oct. 16 with the right hip injury, Badgley has stepped in to handle kicking duties for each of the last five games. Badgley has gone a perfect 7-for-7 on field-goal attempts and 19-for-19 on extra-point attempts, a performance that will allow him to retain the job even with Blankenship seemingly trending toward a return to full health. Since the Colts haven't designated Blankenship for a return from IR, he can't practice with the team, but he'll presumably work…read more

Blankenship (hip) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Still absent Thursday
Blankenship (hip) was unavailable for Thursday's practice.

Blankenship (hip) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Blankenship's absence from practice comes as little surprise, after head coach Frank Reich said the kicker underwent an MRI on Tuesday after dealing with the hip injury in Monday's 31-25 overtime loss to the Ravens. The Colts tried out some kickers Wednesday and signed Michael Badgley to the practice squad, per Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis. Gets MRI, Week 6 status in question
Colts head coach Frank Reich said Blankenship (hip) underwent an MRI on Tuesday, leaving the kicker's status uncertain heading into a Week 6 matchup with the Texans, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. "I'll get the results [of the MRI], and then we'll talk through with [general manager Chris Ballard] what we need to do, whether we need to bring in another kicker, how extensive is the injury."
Analysis: The Colts already seem to be bracing for Blankenship not being available for Sunday's game, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relaying Wednesday that the team worked out kickers Brett Maher and Michael Badgley. Blankenship was clearly limited by the injury in the Colts' Week 5 loss to the Ravens on Monday, telling Stephen Holder of The Athletic that he felt "stabbing pain" in his right hip prior to the contest. Battling hip injury
Blankenship played through a hip injury suffered during the first quarter of Monday night's game against Baltimore, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: Blankenship obviously wasn't right after suffering the injury, missing one of two extra points and two of four field goal attempts. One of his field goal misses would have won his team the game as time expired. It's currently unclear if the injury will force Blankenship to miss time, but the Colts will likely audition other placekickers heading into Week 6 against the Texans.

Perfect on five kicks
Blankenship made both field-goal attempts and all three PATs during Sunday's 27-17 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Blankenship converted on field goals from 34 and 43 yards as he remains perfect from inside 50 yards this season. The 24-year-old is 9-for-10 on field goals and 6-for-6 on PATs heading into the Week 5 matchup at Baltimore.

Scores 10 points
Blankenship made three of four field-goal attempts and his only extra-point try in Sunday's 25-16 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Blankenship converted from 43, 28 and 24 yards before going wide right with his final field-goal attempt, a 51-yarder. With his second straight 10-point outing, Blankenship now sports 24 through the Colts' first three games.

Converts all three FG attempts
Blankenship converted all three field-goal attempts from 48, 46 and 35 yards and made his only extra-point attempt in Sunday's loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Blankenship has converted all four field-goal attempts this season, and his two 45-plus yard conversions bode well for repeating his success from that distance last season. The 2020 UDFA went 31-for-34 from inside 50 yards last year.

Doesn't miss in season opener
Blankenship connected on his only field-goal attempt and made his only extra-point attempt during Sunday's 28-16 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Blankenship once again came out of a training camp competition on top and started his 2021 campaign off without a hitch. He connected on a 21-yard attempt on the Colts' opening drive and sank an extra point two drives later, but as the Seahawks started to pull away, the Colts elected to keep him sidelined. The 2020 UDFA went 31-for-34 from inside 50 yards last year, but his lack of 50-plus yard attempts (1-for-3) significantly impacts his fantasy upside.

Wins kicking battle
Blankenship has won the Colts' kicking job with the team releasing Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Undrafted last year, Blankenship won the job with a strong training camp and converted 32 of 37 field-goal attempts (86.5 percent) in the regular season. However, he had just three attempts from 50-plus yards, missing two, and then missed a field goal in a playoff loss to Buffalo. Blankenship will keep his spot for Week 1, but the month-long job battle with Pineiro this summer suggests Colts brass isn't entirely sold on him.

Makes 47-yard FG
Blankenship converted his only field goal attempt from 47 yards in Saturday's preseason win at Minnesota.
Analysis: Both Blankenship and Eddy Pineiro have been nearly perfect in training camp and the preseason. Blankenship will likely retain this starting job from last season unless he stumbles. He had a solid rookie campaign, missing only five kicks (including PATs) inside of 50 yards. However, he had a key 33-yard misfire late in the third quarter against Buffalo during the playoffs.

Faces competition for kicker job
Indianapolis will have an open competition at kicker between Blankenship and Eddy Pineiro during OTAs and training camp, Jim Ayello of The Indianapolis Star reports. "[Blankenship] had a good season for us last year, so that's obviously taken into consideration. He'll have to earn it again this year...it is open competition," head coach Frank Reich said.
Analysis: Blankenship had a solid rookie campaign, missing only five kicks (including PATs) inside of 50 yards. However, he had a key 33-yard misfire late in the third quarter against Buffalo during the playoffs. Blankenship doesn't have great range (1-for-3 on kicks of 50-plus yards), so the Colts could decide to go with a stronger leg. Still, Blankenship has to be considered a heavy favorite to retain the job over Pineiro.

Misses two kicks
Blankenship missed two of four field-goal attempts but made both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 28-14 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Blankenship converted his short kicks, splitting the uprights from 22 and 24 yards, but misfired from 56 yards right before halftime and 49 yards on the Colts' first drive after. Despite those misses, Blankenship still finished the regular season with 139 points, ranking fifth league-wide among kickers as a rookie.

Converts four kicks
Blankenship made his lone field-goal attempt and all three extra-point tries in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Blankenship made a 28-yard chip shot to start the third quarter, marking his only field-goal attempt of the day. The rookie has now made 30 of 33 field-goal tries this season, including 10 of 12 attempts from beyond 40 yards. Drills 53-yarder
Blankenship connected on both field-goal attempts and all three extra-point tries in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Texans.
Analysis: Blankenship nailed a 35-yarder on the first drive of the second quarter, and he drilled a 53-yarder on the next drive, marking a career long with his first made field goal from beyond 50 yards. The rookie is in the race for the most points in the league, as his 125 ties him for second and has him just eight points shy of Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo.

Converts on eight kicks
Blankenship made three field-goal attempts and five extra-point tries in Sunday's 44-27 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: The Colts torched the Raiders on the ground and through the air, allowing Blankenship to put up 14 points. All of his field goals came from within 40 yards, but it was a significant feat nonetheless. The rookie now ranks fourth in the league with 116 points through 13 games.

Drills four kicks
Blankenship made a 42-yard field goal and all three extra-point attempts in Sunday's 26-20 win over the Texans.
Analysis: The Colts' offense was effective against a depleted Texans defense, leaving minimal opportunities for Blankenship. He was perfect once again, marking the fourth time in five games the rookie didn't miss a kick. However, Blankenship tried more than one field goal in just two of those games. He's been tough to depend on lately, but he's intriguing again in Week 14 against the Raiders, which allowed 28 points to the Jets in Week 13.

Minimal usage in blowout loss
Blankenship didn't attempt a field goal but made both extra-point attempts in Sunday's 45-26 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: The Colts scored touchdowns on each of their first two drives, and Blankenship followed up each score with an extra point. By the time the Colts found the end zone again, they were down by 18 and in need of two-point conversions. It was an unlucky game script for Blankenship's fantasy managers. Nails game-winning kick
Blankenship made four of five field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries in Sunday's 34-31 overtime win against the Packers.
Analysis: Three field goals in the second half helped the Colts overcome an 11-point halftime deficit and force overtime, and the rookie kicker connected on his fourth of the day from 39 yards in the extra period to secure the team's seventh win of the year. The rookie kicker is now tied with Daniel Carlson for the league high in points (94), and he won't kick in an outdoor setting until Week 16.

Drills both kicks Sunday
Blankenship made a 43-yard field goal and his lone extra-point in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Blankenship led the league in points through the first six games, but he took a sharp turn following the Week 7 bye, making just one field goal and four extra points -- he missed two attempts last week -- over the past two contests. The Colts' offense continues to be mediocre, but it should provide more opportunities for Blankenship in Week 10, as the Titans have allowed an average of 25.1 points per game this year.

Misses two PATs
Blankenship converted three of five extra-point attempts during Sunday's 41-21 win over the Lions.
Analysis: The 23-year-old struggled mightily coming out of the bye week, as he pushed two PATs wide right. Blankenship didn't attempt any field goals, but he still could have had a six-point day if he converts the PATs, as the Colts opted for a two-point conversion after his first miss. Blankenship is 16-for-18 on field-goal attempts and 18-for-20 on extra-point attempts this season, and Sunday's performance could put him on thin ice if he struggles again next week versus the Ravens.

Nails another five kicks
Blankenship hit a 40-yard field goal and all four extra-point attempts in Sunday's 31-27 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Blankenship was perfect for a third straight week, but this was the first time in the undrafted rookie's career that he made fewer than two field goals in a game. It was a solid fantasy day for the Georgia product nonetheless, as he extended his league-high point tally to 63, outpacing Justin Tucker by four. Perfect on five kicks
Blankenship made all five kicks -- three field goals and two extra points -- in Sunday's 32-23 loss to the Browns.
Analysis: Blankenship has only missed one field goal from less than 40 yards this season, and he connected on all three from that range Sunday. Colts faithful should be excited to have some stability at the position after legend Adam Vinatieri's disappointing 2019 season, as Blankenship leads the league with 56 points through five games. Even with the Colts' offense being underwhelming, Blankenship is producing and should be universally rostered and started Week 6 against the Bengals.

Registers 13 points
Blankenship hit all four field goals and his lone extra-point attempt in Sunday's 19-11 win over the Bears.
Analysis: The undrafted rookie has been a solid contributor for the Colts, as he's made all nine extra points this season and 12 of 14 field goals (86 percent). Blankenship's work from distance has been solid, too, hitting four of five kicks from beyond 40 yards. It's tough being tied to the Colts' mediocre offense, but a Week 5 matchup against the Browns should yield fantasy dividends, as the Browns have allowed the eighth-most total yards (402) in the league.

Analysis: Blankenship converted field goals from 42 and 41 yards Sunday, but he hit the right upright from 41 yards on his miss. It was still a productive day for the 23-year-old, and he's 8-for-10 on field-goal attempts and 8-for-8 on extra-point attempts through three games. A matchup with the Bears in Week 4 represents the toughest defensive test for the Colts in the young season.

Hits all six kicks
Blankenship connected on all four field goals and two extra points in Sunday's 28-11 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: Blankenship missed a 30-yard field goal in Week 1, but the undrafted free agent bounced back with perfection against Minnesota, including a 44-yard field goal. The Colts have moved the ball well with Philip Rivers under center, and they draw another favorable matchup in Week 3 with the Jets coming to town.

Misses short FG in debut
Blankenship made two of three field goal attempts, missing from 30 yards, in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville. He converted both extra-point attempts.
Analysis: It's concerning that Blankenship missed a short field goal in a close game considering the undrafted rookie likely doesn't have a strong hold on the job. He likely cannot afford many more missteps early in the season.

Wins kicking job
Blankenship will be the Colts' kicker to begin the season after Chase McLaughlin was waived Saturday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Blakenship outperformed McLaughlin during the team's scrimmage last week, which seemed to be the difference maker in an otherwise tight competition throughout training camp. The Georgia product was a standout kicker at the collegiate level, making 80 of his 97 career field-goal attempts, but he didn't wind up getting drafted. That ultimately might have been a blessing in disguise, as Blankenship should now be set to take over for long-time Colt Adam Vinatieri at the pivotal position.…read more

Kicking battle remains close
Blankenship outperformed veteran Chase McLaughlin in Saturday's scrimmage, making six of seven field goals, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Blankenship made kicks of 33, 37, 41, 52, 56 and 57 yards and missed from 48. McLaughlin made four of seven kicks, missing from 48, 52 and 56 yards. McLaughlin had performed better than Blankenship in the first scrimmage, so the battle for the placekicking job remains close. However, McLaughlin is still the favorite as a veteran since he made five of six field-goal attempts and all 11 PATs in his stint with the Colts last season.

Falling behind in kicker battle
Blankenship was 5-for-8 in field-goal attempts during Monday's practice at Lucas Oil Stadium, with misses from 39, 44 and 53 yards and appears behind Chase McLaughlin in the competition for the placekicker job, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Blankenship, who joined the Colts after a prolific college career at Georgia, entered training camp as an underdog to unseat McLaughlin, and it sounds like he's falling behind in the competition. Still, the Colts may not name a starter until close to the start of the regular season.

Still in kicker competition
Blankenship and Chase McLaughlin are in a tight battle for the Colts' starting kicker job, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: McLaughlin made the rounds last year, playing a handful of games with the Chargers and 49ers, but he ultimately ended the year by suiting up for four games with the Colts. During that stretch, he connected on five of six field goals, including two from beyond 50 yards. That may give him a modest incumbent's edge in this kicking competition, but Blankenship has reportedly won a few days during training camp as well. Blankenship, a Georgia product, converted on 82 percent of his field goals and…read more
