Gregory Rousseau has generated a team-high 44 pressures this season, 19 more than the next closest Bill, and tied for the 21st-most in the NFL this season.

Notches sack in Week 13 victory
Rousseau registered four tackles (all solo), including 1.0 sacks, and recovered a fumble in Sunday's 35-10 win over the 49ers.
Analysis: In a game that was played in snowy conditions, players on both sides of the ball visibly struggled to gain traction on field. That led to just one sack -- Rousseau's second-quarter takedown of Brock Purdy -- being recorded across both teams. Rousseau has registered a sack in three of his past four contests and is up to 6.5 on the campaign. His career-high mark is 8.0, which he established in 2022 as a second-year player.

Monster outing in win
Rousseau recorded seven total tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks and an additional two tackles for loss, in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: The fourth-year pro wreaked havoc on the Dolphins' offensive line in Sunday's win, as he was the only Bill to take down Tua Tagovailoa while also logging an additional two tackles for loss. Rousseau is having one of the best seasons of his young career through nine games, recording 33 total tackles, including 4.5 sacks, and two passes defended. He's expected to continue causing problems for opposing offenses as the Bills face the Colts in Week 10.

Bats down two passes Sunday
Rousseau recorded four tackles (three solo) and two passes defensed during Sunday's 31-10 win at Seattle.
Analysis: Rousseau's production in the sack column has dried up since he tallied 3.0 sacks in Week 1 versus the Cardinals, but he proved Sunday he can still make an impact without getting to the quarterback. He'll be after Tua Tagovailoa when Buffalo hosts the Dolphins in Week 9.

Has monster start to year
Rousseau recorded six tackles (all solo) including 3.0 sacks, and a forced fumble during Sunday's 34-28 win versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: One of his sacks in Week 1 came on a foot race to the sideline with Kyler Murray, whose exceptional speed Rousseau was basically able to match after shedding right tackle Jonah Williams (knee). It's a dynamite start for a player looking for the first double-digit sack season of his career. He'll be pursuing Tua Tagovailoa when the Bills trek to Miami in Week 2.

Has option picked up
The Bills will exercise Rousseau's 2025 fifth-year team option, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old was the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and has 17 sacks through three seasons as a 46-game starter for Buffalo. Rousseau played a career-high 585 defensive snaps last season. The Bills need Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa and veteran Von Miller to key their pass rush in 2024 after notably only adding fifth-round rookie Javon Solomon off the edge and losing Leonard Floyd's 10.5 sacks in free agency.

Ready for next step?
Rousseau completed the 2023 regular season with 42 tackles (including 5.0 sacks), four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Analysis: Rousseau saw a career-high snaps on defense (558), so perhaps it's a bit disappointing that he fell eight tackles short of his rookie season and 3.0 sacks short of the career-high 8.0 he posted in 2022. With the playoff perennial Bills facing so much turnover on both sides of the ball, the 2021 first-rounder may be expected to hit another gear if the team is to take a fifth straight AFC East title. A.J. Epenesa has already proven capable of helping Rousseau with the pass rush on the other side…read more

Gets to Mahomes
Rousseau had two tackles, one pass defensed and half a sack during Buffalo's 20-17 win over the Chiefs on Sunday.
Analysis: Perhaps the 2021 first-rounder hasn't been as dynamic as was hoped during his third season, but the Buffalo pass rush has been strong all season and Rousseau has been a key part of it. He stands at 32 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on the season. With the Bills facing a number of injuries on defense, Rousseau's performance down the stretch will be key as the team tries to scratch out a playoff spot.

Good to go vs. Giants
Rousseau (foot) does not carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game versus the Giants.
Analysis: After sitting out in Week 5 versus Jacksonville with a foot injury, Rousseau will be available for Week 6. He should step right back into a significant role on Buffalo's defensive line Sunday.

Won't play Week 5
Coach Sean McDermott said Friday that Rousseau (foot) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Rousseau popped up with a foot injury that forced him to miss practice Wednesday, and he will need to miss at least one game as he works his way back to full health. In Rousseau's stead, A.J. Epenesa will stand to handle an expanded role on defense versus Jacksonville.

Misses practice Wednesday
Rousseau (foot) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: It's not clear whether he picked up the injury during the week or during Sunday's game versus the Dolphins. It's also not clear whether his status for Week 5 is actually in any jeopardy, so it will be worth keeping an eye on Buffalo's injury reports Thursday and Friday.

Two sacks in win
Rousseau had three tackles including two sacks in Sunday's 48-20 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Rousseau is up to 3.0 sacks on the season, tied for second on the team with Ed Oliver and half a sack behind Leonard Floyd. The defensive front should soon receive even more support with Von Miller (knee) returning to practice this week.

Makes strides in second season
Rousseau finished the 2022 regular season with 37 tackles, eight sacks, four passes defended and one forced fumble over 13 games.
Analysis: The 8.0 sacks -- which co-led the team with Von Miller -- is the number that sticks out the most considering Rousseau missed time with an ankle injury and also that the Bills typically rotate their defensive linemen more than most teams. He also stepped it up after Miller was lost for the season with a knee injury. Rousseau has mammoth size and has now proven a knack for getting after the quarterback, so he could be relied upon for more in the 2023 season, as the Bills have some cap issues and…read more

Practices without limitations
Rousseau (ankle) was a full participant in practice Monday.
Analysis: Rousseau said Sunday that he feels close to full health, and Monday's full participation backs up that notion. After missing Buffalo's previous three games, Rousseau's poised to return for Thursday's road game in New England.

Eyeing Week 13 return
Rousseau, who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, returned to practice Sunday, Alec White and Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site report. Said Rousseau, "I'm feeling good man, pretty close for sure."
Analysis: Rousseau has posted 5.0 sacks through just eight games, and with Von Miller being out at least a week or two with a knee injury, the second-year pass rusher's presence would be highly welcomed as the Bills make a push for a division crown in what's been a highly competitive AFC East all season. The Bills play their next three games against division foes, beginning with Thursday's game against the rival Patriots.

Ruled out for Thanksgiving
Rousseau (ankle) has been ruled for Thursday's contest versus the Lions, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Rousseau will be unavailable for a third consecutive game as he continues to nurse an ankle injury as Buffalo faces off with Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. He'll now shift his focus to a potential return in Week 13 against the Patriots.

Ruled out for Week 11
Rousseau (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Browns, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Rousseau will miss a second consecutive game in Week 11 after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 9 versus the Jets. The defensive end will now shift his focus to being ready for the Bills' Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Lions on Thursday.

Still not practicing
Rousseau missed practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
Analysis: The second-year defensive end has a high-ankle sprain and it may be a bit of a surprise if he's able to return this week against the Browns. Even Week 12 may be a tough task with the Bills set to play Thanksgiving Day.

Ruled out for Sunday
Rousseau (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Rousseau suffered a high-ankle sprain in a Week 9 matchup with the Jets, missing the second half of that contest. The 22-year-old defensive end has recorded 21 total tackles so far this season, and his five sacks are good for the second-highest total on Buffalo's formidable defense. In Rousseau's absence, A.J. Epenesa and Shaq Lawson should see increased playing time.

Dealing with high-ankle sprain
Rousseau sustained a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's 20-17 loss at the Jets and is considered week-to-week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Rousseau missed the second half of Buffalo's loss in Week 9 with the injury, and he's now in jeopardy of missing multiple games as he recovers. The sophomore first-rounder was on pace for a 12-sack season heading into Sunday's game, but until he's ready to return, A.J. Epenesa and Shaq Lawson should see increased reps.

Questionable to return
Rousseau is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bears with an ankle injury.
Analysis: Rousseau did not record a tackle in the first half and was listed as questionable coming out of halftime. With the 2021 first-round pick sidelined, expect Carlos Basham and A.J. Epenesa to step up into bigger roles opposite Von Miller on Sunday.

Third straight game with sack
Rousseau posted three tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks during Sunday's 21-19 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: Rousseau recorded his lone solo sack late in the second quarter on a second-and-10 play, ultimately forcing a punt. He got after Tua Tagovailoa again in the fourth when he split a sack with defensive back Damar Hamlin. Across three games, the second-year defensive end has totaled 11 tackles and 3.5 sacks and appears to be benefitting from plenty of one-on-one pass-rush opportunities while playing opposite Von Miller.

Comes up with second sack
Rousseau logged four tackles (three solo) including one sack during Monday's 41-7 win over Tennessee.
Analysis: Rousseau registered four tackles and a sack for the second straight game, even though he played 18 fewer defensive snaps compared to Week 1 (44). Rousseau is currently tied for the Bills' team lead in sacks, and he should continue to receive the benefit of one-on-one pass-rushing looks while playing opposite Von Miller this season.

Solid performance in Week 1
Rousseau registered four solo tackles, one sack and one pass defense during Thursday's 31-10 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Rousseau tipped a pass intended for Cooper Kupp at the line in the first quarter and sacked Matthew Stafford on a third-and-short situation in the third quarter. The second-year defensive end played 45 of the team's 67 defensive snaps and will likely be a key piece in Buffalo's defense in 2022. As a rookie, the 2021 first-round pick recorded 50 tackles, four sacks, four pass defenses and one interception across 17 appearances.

Makes mark in rookie season
Rousseau finished his rookie campaign with 50 tackles, four sacks, four passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble over 17 regular-season games.
Analysis: Rousseau appeared in all 19 of the Bills' games including the playoffs, typically playing about half of the team's defensive snaps. The first-round selection out of Miami (Fla.) made more of a mark than fellow rookie teammate Carlos Basham, a second-round pick who appeared in eight regular-season games and posted 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Both players should start to get more snaps as they mature and the Bills begin moving away from relying on aging veterans like Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison.

Career high in tackles
Rousseau recorded seven tackles (five solo) in the Bills' 41-15 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Analysis: Rousseau continues to make an impact on the defensive line in his rookie year. The Bills' 2021 first-round selection now has 33 tackles, three sacks, a pass defensed and an interception on the season.

Enjoys breakout game
Rousseau managed five tackles (four solo), one sack, one pass breakup and one interception during Sunday night's win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Rousseau put together the best game of his young career against a fellow AFC powerhouse, bringing him to three sacks on the season. The rookie first-round pick earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance, and he'll get another primetime matchup Week 6 in the form of a Monday night road game in Tennessee.

Full practice Thursday
Rousseau (toe) logged a full practice Thursday.
Analysis: The rookie popped up on the injury report Wednesday as a non-particpant in practice. There appears to be no concern of him missing Sunday's game versus the Chiefs and he'll look to build upon his 13 tackles and two sacks in the contest.

Toe injury crops up
Rousseau did not practice Wednesday due to a toe injury.
Analysis: We'll see if the rookie can ramp things up and get himself in position to play this week at Kansas City. The early returns on the first-rounder out of Miami are good, as he's worked himself into the rotation on a strong defense while posting 13 tackles and 2.0 sacks.

Monster game in divisional win
Rousseau had five tackles and his first two NFL sacks in Sunday's win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Rousseau slipped down to the bottom of the first round in April's draft, mostly because he sat out last season for the Miami Hurricanes due to COVID concerns. It looks like the Bills may have gotten themselves a steal, as the 6-foot-6 Rousseau has already worked himself into the rotation on a talented line and is proving himself a handful for opposing linemen. He's probably not quite IDP worthy yet, but if he can keep carving out playing time, that day may not be too far off.

Signs rookie deal
The Bills came to terms on a four-year deal with Rousseau on Thursday, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The rookie out of Miami was the 30th overall pick in April and should have an immediate key role on the defensive line after recording 15.5 sacks in 2019. However, given that Rousseau sat out all of 2020 due to the pandemic and with the Bills having a plethora of D-linemen to use -- the team even used its second-round selection for the position by taking Carlos Basham -- it may be a bit before we're talking about Rousseau in IDP terms. Still, his upside is high given his college production and…read more
